Anyone have a comparison between this and the factory Toyota offering? Just about to pull the trigger on a new Tacoma and would love to know which is better. I really like that you can run the backflip vertical but I'm concerned about durability vs the toyota one.

I haven't tried the factory, but I chose the MX4 because it looked like one of the few that would allow me to get a custom bed rack made to work together. The factory one sits over the top of the bed sides and would not work.

I haven't had that problem with the size stripping that I used. When I tightened the cap rail down it compressed enough so the seal on the rail made good contact with the top of the bed.

From my experience, stripping definitely needs to sit in the 90 degree angle of the rail where it meets rounded 90 turn on the bed. There it basically fills the gap created by the rounded edge of the top of the inside of the bed. This is displayed well in post #114 by @tekoma in this thread. Here's a not great picture of the rail from the back on my truck to try and show where I placed the stripping on mine. I've highlighted the position of the stripping in the second pic since its hard to see.

Also of course it was pouring when I went out to take the photos. But I can confirm, no leaks. Hopefully this helps!?

That does help, I appreciate the pics. My seal for some reason looks a little more flat at the end and the stripping I used was thicker so that could have been my issues. I have ordered the one you used and will keep you posted on install later this week.

    Thanks bcgill for the info!

Snagged an MX4 from Amazon Warehouse Deals for $550, said the condition was used - acceptable with damage. The box had some tears in the cardboard, but everything was sealed in plastic brand new. Score!

I may do some minor mods to the seals, but the included seal for the bulkhead was way too thick and didnt allow the tonneau to sit flush so I didnt use it.

No bed rack in my future, but they sure look good. I would think being on top of the bed side might make it more water resistant

Yes, the Fibermax is FRP panels as well. I was recommending the F1 since it is the premier option and would offer many of the similar features that the MX4 has, such as the upgraded tailgate seal. If you don't have a preference of that feature and don't need the weight capacity that the F1 features, the Fibermax would make an excellent choice and save you money.

Just got a great deal from Morrie over at Tonneau Factory Outlet. Highly recommend this man because after I bought my tonneau cover from him, a "One man operation" that was 3 hours late getting back to me after he said he would email the invoice in 2o minutes shoots me a way low offer on the same cover. I emailed Morrie that I popped to quick on his offer and another dude just undercut him bad. Morrie never emailed me but called me personally! I told him the deal then he told me about the "One man operation." I told Morrie to forget about the email but he would have nothing of it. He met me halfway which was not necessary in my book after what he told me. Morrie is understaffed at the moment and he wants to make his customers happy. If you are in the market for a tonneau cover chat them up. Great people in my book!

I didn't go the BakFlip route... Popped on a TruXedo Sentry instead. Buddy has the Sentry CT which is the matte black woven fabric on his new Tundra. Like the functionality of the Sentry cover's.

And again...Morrie gave me a heck of a rebate! :)

Can anyone with a back flip tell me the amount of bed space available when the cover is folded on itself and flat against the bed rails. (Just as it is in the photo, SHORT BED) I am hoping to be able to have it in this setting and clear the back tire of my bike when it hanging on the tailgate pad. Maybe a measurement from the tailgate lip to the cover?

About 34” from tailgate lip to folded cover as it sits in your photo. Short bed.

    Awesome! Thank you.

I am assuming the tailgate lip your referencing is the lip facing into the bed towards the cab, not the farthest back point of the tailgate?

Yes, to the inside lip of the tailgate, towards the cab.

Hi thank you for your post, it will def help me with the install. Just ordered the MX4 and the stripping you used and will install next week.

    1) Is there a good solution for the drain holes with an OEM mat without any drilling? I don't want to drill and use the existing drain holes and the OEM mat. Has anyone found a good solution for it?, I live in florida so rain can get heavy in the summertime here.

    2) When putting the stripping down on the side rails. I'm putting the stripping on the corner of the Bakflip rail right? and not directly on the truck bed?

    Thanks

    1) I think the best option (others can chime in here) is drilling into side of the bed instead on the floor. Trust me, I'm not wild about adding extra holes in my truck. I didn't have a bed mat when I installed mine, but now have the OEM bed mat and option of having a mat was definitely a consideration when I decided on the location for my drains.

    2) Yep you are correct.
