Is there any noticeable difference in MPG between same trucks with different drive-train?
I'm getting 15-17 MPG in daily commute. Starting to regret the 4WD that I never use. Is there anything I could disconnect to reduce the useless drag from the CV/TC?

I converted my truck from 2wd to 4wd. I tracked my mileage religiously for a year before and a year after. Made zero difference. Now, going up a tire size (and E load) killed my mpg's.

What do you have on your truck/how are you driving that you get 15-17? I never get below 21 unless I'm in the mountains or driving like an asshole

According to toyotas website the TRD PRO in auto is rated 18/22, while the TRD Off road auto (DCSB) in 2WD is rated 19/24...if that's what you meant by different drive train, not sure if you were curious about the 4 cylinder. As far as anything else you could do i'm not sure. Is your truck stock and is it auto? I saw you have trd pro so used it in comparison.

The lift and tires is what’s killing your MPGs not the 4x4

    Adjust the skinny pedal first.

Then get a lower valence (air dam) and do the minor alterations required to fit it to your Pro skid.

I bet you get 2-4mpg better. Track it with fuelly.com before and after, and share the results.

Start the truck and let it run till the high idle drops (have a smoke and a coffee for 3-4 min). 4 miles to the freeway and join the #$%$#&^%* traffic for 16 miles or drive the side streets for 17 miles and freeway for 3 miles. Same shit in MPG. I have seen as low as 14 MPG to 19MPG but mostly in the 16-17 range.

Changing driving habits, removing the lift and changing your tires back to original will probably be the only things you can do to improve mpg.

This may help a little bit, but it's not going to do much with the other mods he's done to the truck. Heavier tires, 3" lift no bueno for mpg

Stop idling for 3-4 minutes. Start and drive. No need for warm up.

Did you drive your truck for a decent amount of time before you started modding it?

There's around 2 MPG difference just from having a transfer case and another axel in the front. But lift/tires make a much bigger impact than 4wd/2wd.

If your having MPG issues, get lighter/smaller tires. P-tires instead of LT-tires. That's the biggest mileage difference.

Yeah, s/he posted that as I was composing my message.

Not sure what’s up with this OP. What do pretty old cars that get in the 20mpg -30mpg range (Yugo, etc.) have to do with this truck? Maybe the thread should have been titled: “Lifted/bigger tires results in expected mpg loss!”

I don't agree. On cold mornings if your starting outside (no garage) a couple minutes of idleing before driving is a good way to make your engine last longer.

I always wait at least until my air pump shuts off before getting on the gas.

Do you mind me asking you why you bought the pro if you barely use 4wd? I'm guessing for looks which i can't blame you for.

It sounds like to me maybe you should have bought the trd off road 2wd and maybe done some cosmetic mods and update your tires maybe in stock size and staying passenger rated or standard load.
