Have seen the damage a bear can do to a car that had a bag of sweet feed in the truck. Trunk lid and taillights torn off the car

I guess my hasty Googling didn't catch that the 17 Tacoma didn't have the soy wiring....but soy or not, it was still a snack for the squirrel. Oh well.
Also looks like the Federal court dismissed the lawsuit last year for the vehicles that did have the soy wiring.
btw, my nest was built within 3 days. I'm pretty sure I would have seen that nest when I had opened the hood to change out the air filter 3 days prior.

    thanks for the posts.

Hey I didn’t mention this but one thing I do that I learned a long time ago being a park ranger was too wet down the engine compartment and sprinkle cayenne pepper all over the engine, having had issues with squirrels and rabbits and mice, it all stopped after doing that. We always had them getting into the work and personal vehicles before that. Good luck, hope you solve your problems!

Thought i would also mention that an old ranch hand once told me that vanilla and also juicy fruit gum are good for rodent deterrent.

I got a squirrel nest in my 15 Tacoma. It had 1700 miles on it. Ran fine the day before. Started it and all of the check engine, etc, lights were on. It ran in limp mode. Had a nice nest of just leaves where he had his nest. Had it towed to the dealer. It was a 3500 bill for a new front wiring harness with labor. Insurance covered all but the 500 deductible. Crazy squirrels. When I got it back I had cleaned out the garage so the Taco went in there from now on. Lesson learned.

Seems like that would attract them, but you never know.
