    sounds normal to me.
    You won't complain about the mileage of a Trabont, that's for sure. You'll have bigger fish to fry.

    This will help get some MPGs back:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/free-wheel-hub-conversion-3rd-gen.513930/

    The CV and front diff spiders will no longer be turning. It will also give you 2Lo.

    The way I ended up with a PRO is a long story...dealer helped...in getting a new truck...
    Reading about other moded trucks with better MPG makes me wonder why? I use Chevron only and tested all grades, still the same. No problems with the truck, runs good, only low MPG. Best I have seen was in the very low 20. I even drove behind a 18 wheeler to eliminate wind drag and no difference.

    It's the extra weight that reduces the mpg. Some parasitic losses but mostly weight. Why did you buy a 4WD if you don't need it?

    Tacomas have always had the distinction of some people saying the mileage isn't bad, most of us saying it's worse than a full size.
    Luck of the draw or or maybe calculating wrong? I dunno. All i have is my own truck (and an old man friend) to go off of.
    We both have thirsty ones and put putt everrywhere. (for the most part, I sure don't complain when I go 80)

    Will try this when I drive home today. Will start it, wait for 30 sec. and drive. Warm outside and slow traffic anyway.

    This is why I have a daily driver. Not worth trying to squeeze out a few MPG's on a truck. Given up long time ago. Sit back and accept its a brick.

    The remedy might be to go exploring in 4wd areas more often...

    Hmm not sure what to tell ya, are the other modded trucks equipped with E rated tires? Only other thing i can think of is to drive slower.

    Of course it's a brick if you throw bigger tires on it with a lift. This thread is fucking pointless.

    Just disappointed...
    20-17=3 MPG loss one way
    3x2=6 MPG loss daily
    6x5=30 MPG loss weekly
    30MPG loss in a week = $4 in gas more
    4x4=16 extra $$$ a month
    16x12=192 Extra $$$ per year
    192x15=2880 extra $$$ for 15 years...
    $2880 that could have been used for beer :frusty:

    I'm pretty sure the highway mpg is calculated at 55 mph....and i'm guessing you drive over that where you live so you have to factor that in as well.
