I get 15-17 stock truck other than ovtune. I have a bed mat in the back and 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeak At3 SL rating tires. That's it. even on the stock tires, I never got into the 20's except for long downhill runs out of the mountains.

If you can keep the wheel weight down it helps buy light wheels cause mud tires are heavy

Lol stop I'm cracking up. This is a good thread. I don't mean to throw shade at you OP, but come on haha. There are so many other vehicles that cater to good MPG. I think overtime you will let go and accept that it's a truck and there isn't much to do about it.

Maybe do an EV conversion while you're removing the 4WD

    1. Lift and tires
    2. Driving habits. Think backwards- start paying attention to how much you brake during your commute. Braking indicates that you just spent too much time on the gas. I gained an easy 5 MPG after I made a simple effort to reduce tap-dancing on the pedals...

Well if it's in stop and go traffic you're gonna get terrible MPG. Which refers to the guy's post above even more.
Roll around. Unless you're one of those people that's on someone's ass for not moving forward 1 vehicle space.

This is really not that hard. Just stay a few car lengths behind and super easy to time. I never even knew this was called hypermiling. Just thought it was common sense to roll around behind someone without smashing brake and gas.
Just respect the left lane and stay on the right when traffic speeds up.

Idling going nowhere isn't much different than driving in traffic, both cases burn fuel with no or little mileage made. Worry about it when you get the same mileage with no traffic. Just driving off at an easy pace shouldn't be a problem, just don't rev it until it's warmed up, the oil gets moving instantly. Stop/go traffic is probably harder on it. Your math is why I bought the 2.7L, not fast but it gets me there with all my shit.

In all honesty though, your kind of daily commute is hard on the oil since the motor rarely gets to run at it's best. Be nice to your taco, take it on a road trip.

Only reason I asked is because I read other posts with good MPG and wonder why mine (being special) is not getting that...
Didn't buy the truck for MPG, just bitching...

Agreed just don't speed, take your time and allow yourself enough time to get somewhere. Only so much you can do, once you start modding your truck though, that's another thing.

    Your math is...really, really wrong.

    Example:
If you drive 50 miles a week
    50 miles/20 miles gal = 2.5 gallons used
    50 miles/17 miles gal = 2.94 gallons used

if your gas costs $2.50 a gallon, then you pay $1 more a week.

Realistically, let's look at 15K miles a year:

15K miles at 20 mpg = 750 gallons of fuel or $1875 if gas is $2.50 a gallon
15K miles at 17 mpg = 882 gallons of fuel or $2205 if gas is $2.50 a gallon
You would save $330 a year if your truck got 20 mpg versus 17 mpg.
Divide that $330 by 12 you save $27.5 a month
Divide that $27.5 by 4 and that gives you a savings of $6.87 a week. About what a Starbucks cost.

I have 275/65/18 E Rated tires. 2.75” lift. 2WD. I get the same gas mileage as you. Just filled up today and Fuelly says 14.8 mpg. It’s definitely no better with a 2WD. It’s the tires and lift. When I was stock, I got 18-20 mpg.
I just loaded/flashed the OVTune last week. So maybe it will help. I can notice a difference by watching the little gauge on my cluster. So maybe the OVTune is a solution that my help you??? We shall see in time what it does for me. It’s definitely more fun to drive!!
