I'm a newb, who might be interested in going, but would really like to keep my brand new truck is good shape, so I'm mostly interested in some easy trails.

Ive only camped once, and it was like a decade ago. Where are y'all camping, and what do I need to bring?

You're likely better off to come to this meet and not this here April meet up. For the sake of easy-er trails. It's more overlander-friendly.

Also, I hope you aren't super attached to your easily detached rear bumper corner caps. Seems they're commonly the first thing to self-clearance on the 3rd gens.

Thanks for the info. I've already replied to that thread, and would like to go.

Are these two meets at different properties?

Not trying to scare you or anyone off, but we won't bullshitcha either
Yes, and no. Both are in the Red River Gorge area, which is inside Daniel Boone Nat'l Forest. We may drive on the exact same roads both times, we might drive on completely separate, more technical (read as, you should probably have armor and NOT stock size or tread-patterned tires) trails.
RRG is the type of wheeling that when the blacktop and gravel ends, you really don't know what's down the road til you get to it. With the amount of rain we've had in 2018 and going into 2019, some of the trails are washed out pretty good I'm sure.

Starting to scare me. Lol. . I’m hoping for the insurance claim on the bumper delete, might have to get that rear bumper faster.

Armor is a good thing to have. I would suggest getting sliders and tires for anyone as the first mods. As everyone would say.

There’s no reason not to come. My first time out wheeling, I rode along with someone to get some ideas of how to better handle the trails. The LBL meet last month is perfect for stock trucks. There’s no reason not to come, meet the people and enjoy some shenanigans. I’m by no means an expert, but certainly this is a good opportunity to sleep in the woods with strangers from the internet and get to know everybody.

    As for stuff to bring.
A CB radio would be nice
Basic camping stuff, tent, sleeping bag, folding chair, some food, beverage of choice, baby wipes. Headlamp or flashlight for night walks.

I agree. Plenty of pinstripes. I think he should come, ride along first, then if he thinks he wishes to subject his truck to the torment, join in. Lol. It’s a good time.

And muck boots. Don’t forget boots. Or at least an extra pair of dry shoes for camp. I made this mistake once at expo east last year, one pair of low side merrels, 8” of mud all weekend.

I went a step further and brought an ikea boot tray for when I climbed into the habitat, trying to keep things clean.

Where are we camping this time? Hobo hideaway?

I'd like to camp that bottom by the creek, place from April last year. If the grass/creek isn't too high, or got gobbled up by one of the new offroad parks.

You really can't go wrong with anything from Icom, Yaesu, or Kenwood.
But you can save a few bucks by going through a ham radio store rather than Amazon, https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=71-001866

Now if you want a radio with another useful "tool" look at the Yaesu FMT-400XDR or the Kenwood TM-D710G. They both have APRS that can be used simultaneously with voice communication.
APRS can be used to track your vehicle (visible to others online), other vehicles also using APRS, you can send SMS test messages to a cell phone, short emails, among other things.
