    <<<cross posted in Wheels & Tires>>>

Hi TW - been lurking for awhile. I was a Wrangler guy until I switched over to a Tacoma as a 3rd vehicle last fall. I went into the store to buy a base SR5 but brought my wife and ended up walking out with a loaded TRD Off Road :notsure:. Love the vehicle so far and am deciding to do a few mods.

I was fortunate enough to just order a set of SCS Ray 10 Matte Gunmetal 17'x8.5 with the -10mm offset. I've searched the forums up and down and am looking for some advice as the wheels are arriving Friday. Like most of us they will literally be on fire in my garage waiting to be mounted.

My question is regarding ordering tires and/or a lift. I'd like to go with the Nitto Ridge Grapplers 285/70/17 but am curious with the aforementioned setup what type of lift I'll need. Can I get away with a 2" lift up front via a set of Bilstein 5100's and 1" block in the back?

Other scenario is that I order 265/70/17 and leave as-is with no lift (from what I gather it shoudl clear). I'd like the truck to look more aggressive so I don't mind spending a little more to go with the 285's. In all transparency the only off-roading I'd be doing is on the beach/dunes on Cape Cod.

Thank you TW - I look forward to your thoughts and will post before/after photos once done.

I'm running that same wheel/tire combo (BFG K02s, though) with a ReadyLift 3/2" spacer lift - I did need to have the cab mount chop performed to avoid the tires from rubbing at full turn.

This is helpful, thanks. How do you like the KO2's? I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of the Ridge Grapplers @$205/ea plus tax.

I had always had the BFG's in the past I switched to the Ridge Grapplers this time. So far no regrets with RG's. Mine are 285/70/17's.tacoma1.jpg

Nice, clean rig! I'll update you in a week or so when I've got the wheels/tires and suspension installed. With pics, of course.

Good to know. I should have everything installed by the end of next week. My only addition to what you have will be the 1" block lift in the rear so we'll see how it goes. FWIW mine is a TRD Off-Road.

Nice truck! Who makes that bash bar/ front bumper? Did it require any cutting?

I had 265 70 17 C load ko2 on ray10 -10mm with a 2" lift. absolutely no problems rubbing before and after lift. Now I am on Nitto RG ray10 -38mm with the 2 1/2" of lift. caster is at 3 degrees. as of yet , no rubbing on the cab mount but I did have to trim some of front bumper and heat molded the inner liner so it would not rub. Just my honest opinion ! Ive ran 3 KO2 on my 1st , 2nd and this this 3rd gen. Great tires, that being said, I will not go back after running these Nitto RG20190413_104445.jpg

I’m pretty lost when it comes to wheel and tire setup and I’ve been looking at the 285/70/17 grapplers and some SCS Ray 10’s in brushes bronze to go on my OR DCLB. I just bought a Bilstein B8 6112 2” lift for my truck and getting a cab mount chop. So what I’m trying to get at is what wheel size do I need to fit that tire?

Well that settles that in every aspect, thanks a lot! That is one nice looking truck right there. The weather blocks on the window look good to, which ones are they?
