THIS IS LONG BUT I HAD TO VENT!

I drove to a dealership that is 1 hour and 30 minutes away last night to look at a truck. Just me and my girlfriend! It was a 2010 White, TRD sport Double Cab long bed. We test drove it and showed interest in it, but I was not ready to buy. I want to have my dad with me when I do. He has done the car buying process numerous times before and I know its best to have him with me. Well as I was walking out the manager stopped me and said if I give it to you for $26,000 will you buy it, and I said not tonight but I will come back with my dad sometime.

Well the very next day, my dad mom and girlfriend all go with me down there. Again its 1 hour and 30 minute drive. We test drive it again and look it over and I sit down to work on the final price. The manager came back over and I told him he had said $26,000 the night before. He walks off and comes back with the offer of $28,880. I told him no, and I told him I would give him $26,000 since that's what he said the night before. He comes back with another offer and it was $28,200. I counter with $27,500 and step rails. This guy freaks and tells me that is way to low and it can not be done. And I told him I was being generous offering that since he said $26,000 the night before.

Me and my dad then thank him for his time and tell him we are leaving. His manager comes over and tells us he can give me the truck for $28,200 and a discount on the rails. I tell him no and ask for a paper stating the price they offered(that way I can show it to other dealers). As I am in their their head manager flipped on me. He said we are not going any lower. So I told him I do not care how low they go, they should have never told me $26,000 if it was not possible. We argued a bit then I walked out. I was so mad. I guess I really am learning dealers are their to screw you over. I am just happy I was strong enough to not let them. Another day, another truck!

And I can not wait for Toyota to call in the next few days and ask if I have found one yet. Then I will be putting in a complaint on that dealership.

Proper english would have been "My girlfriend and I".

Shop around brother. The toyota dealers around greenville are still feeling the heat from the recalls. There giving trucks away.

You did exactly what you should have, good job for sticking to your guns. If they came out with that last offer I would have looked him straight in the eye and said "stop wasting my time."

Proper English would dictate that you capitalize the name of our language as well as placing the period before the final quotation mark. If you have nothing useful to add, please find somewhere else to troll, thanks.

If you want that POS Dodge go ahead. My life is not affected by your decision to get or Dodge or a Toyota in any way.

Pardon me. I think you misunderstood me. I didn't mean that the kid was actually going to the dodge dealership to buy a truck. It would have been him merely stating the fact that they offered him a deal the nite before and if they weren't going to honer that then he would look elsewhere. Sometimes they say "fine, go ahead" sometimes you get the deal. If you like the truck and they wont come down, i'm sure there are more yota dealers in the area that have similiar trucks for what your looking for.

I'm sure you can, with all the glory that hideious grill entails! :p Seriously though GL in the hunt and stay on it.

For comparison I got my 2010 TRD Off-Road double cab (short bed) 4x4 for about 28200 or so pre tax/title/lic. That was about $750 under dealer invoice. I probably could have fought for more but I was satisfied, dealer makes their cut, Toyota gets theirs, I get way better than MSRP... everyone made out. As long as you're realistic with the numbers you should be able to hit it. Find out what the MSRP and Invoice is and then come up with what you believe to be a fair cut (generally 2% over invoice is considered a pretty fair deal).

If you have access to USAA, I highly recommend their car buying service. I used it to get the 750 under... no hassle... just in out, wham bam thank you mam.

You did good by walkin out. It's really like a game of wits...seeing who's gonna crack first. By them goin out on a limb and offering you $26k the first night was probably to bait you back in anyway. They could probably sense that you weren't so keen at the car buying biz and thought they could probably recoup the remainder off the cost from another end. Then when you actually brought more knowledgeable folks with you, their jig was up and no way they could they go back to that original $26k offer. They really put their foot in their mouth with that one cuz that is a really low offer.

Are you already preapproved on a loan? That's another area where they can rape you if you're not careful. Good luck!
