My point has always been and continues to be

Safety rules are in place for a reason.........

And in the outside plant world, Power, Telephone and Cable TV, breaking said rules grounds for immediate dismissal.........

If he breaks the rules once and becomes a "hero" you can be sure he will have a bunch of people following his example.

That's a good choice too. Basically the same platform as my Vaporizer I think.

As you say, extremely effective on bushy-tailed tree-rats with less noise than someone with a hammer.

Well, judging by the picture it appears to be low voltage running along the pole. Now, let’s say...cat is stuck up there and the local TW contingent busts out their little pellet guns and decide to go all Dances with a Wolves on two socks the cat. After several rounds one of them manages to put a pellet right through that cable. Now, Cox, comcast, AT&T or Verizon now has to come out with their bucket truck to splice that line. But now it’s raining and lightning out and the same guys who shot out the line (along with several windows in the neighborhood) are calling and complaining cause they can’t access TW or Facebook so this poor bastard is out in his bucket truck restoring service and gets struck by lightning and dies a horrific death in his bucket.

All he had to do was, the day before, raise that bucket 3-5 extra feet to bring the cat down.

The street light will likely be 208 or 240. So I guess low voltage is relative? :)

In a previous life I worked for the power company cutting tree limbs out of power lines, so I might be a tiny bit qualified to speak to this. With out being able to see the beginning of the service to the street light its impossible to tell whats going on. It could be anything from 120 - 480 volts and it really doesn't matter because you don't want to be shocked by anything.

In my tree trimming days I wouldn't have given a second thought to rescuing that cat. I'd pop up there, snag the cat and be back on the ground in under 3 minutes. BUT, and this is a BIG but, I was trained and had special equipment for dealing with power lines. My truck had insulated fiberglass boom arms, I had insulated lineman gloves, (both of which were tested for electrical leakage on a regular basis) and I knew what I was dealing with when it came to power lines. AFAIK Verizon guys have none of that. Looking at the picture the Verizon guy was probably in little to no danger, but the bosses have to send a clear message, a man's life is worth more than a cats. Three weeks without pay seems extreme, but it who knows what company rules this guy broke by doing this.

If he’d have knocked the power out for even 30 minutes he’d be a villain and everyone affected would want his head regardless if he survived or not.

Still gotta have a way to get to the communications lines above the light. What I meant is I don’t see power lines running parallel and above the comms lines

At that rate, 170k plus a year........

    Someone will do this again.

And there is a specific procedure for working aloft around street lights.

Bit he DID NOT deploy a few simple steps that could have protected him......

Cause he was only gonna b up there a few minutes.....

Think you are looking at the power lines for the street light.

Cable n telephone would be 2 ft or more above that street light

Added note: based on joint pole use is California.

Back east might be different. Doubt it though.

After watching the video here's a follow up on my comments above. Communication lines are always the lowest lines on the pole. In the video you can see that the power service to the street light is above the communication lines. It looks to be a standard 220 volt service, like what runs a dryer or stove. The Verizon boom truck is not insulated and the guy is a crap operator. His bumps and jerks could easily get him killed. Bottom line, after watching the video that guy had no business being up there.
