It was 2 miles and only 4’ of snow (but often well below zero) grew up in Minnesota! Not sure about the $10k thing. Pro’s in CA were $15k more than my DCLB Off Road Tech/Prem. Zero exaggeration!

I have the print out from dealer when I considered a trade to Pro model a month ago.
TRD PRO 2019 White 6MT no additional accessories MSRP $44,202.00
They were firm on that price and offered me 27k even for my trade.

If you want a MT and can wait until the end of the year, there are definitely deals to be had. I bought my 2018, MT, PRO (only options were mud flaps, window tint and "toyoguard platinum") for $40,600 (before title and taxes).

Probably could have gotten a premium package OR for... $36?

I don't understand people paying California markup... Autotrader makes it pretty easy to do a national search, shipping/road trip back isn't that expensive...

If you're looking for a truck to mod and play with and aren't worried about warranty, go with the Off Road. There aren't many major differences. The biggest factors in the Pro that I enjoy are the tech/luxury features and the fact that everything already done to it is tied into the warranty and VIN #, the Pro holds it's value pretty well, but if you're going to upgrade stuff on it anyways, might as well go with the lower price tag and make it your own!

The main differences are the TRD Pro comes standard with a 5.3L V8 at 380HP, disc brakes and coils in the rear instead of drums and leaves. Oh, wait, that was just a dream. Never mind.

That's my biggest gripe with it. On the lot they are marked up way high, but when you break down the actual expensive parts on the truck (other than the pro shift knob, embroidered pro letters in the leather), the cost of the truck is higher than the worth of the parts underneath that I could buy on the open market.

I guess I started this off on the wrong foot. I have a full packaged offroad Long bed, sold for 42k in 2016 with 4 miles on it. It is dumb to compare a base 4x4 because yes the pro does have several upgrades that the base model doesn't have.

I was more or less wondering if the truck I have is any "less" compared to a Pro, and as I have confirmed it, there isn't much differences.

I know this thread is about the long bed off road, but just for shits and giggles i built a 2019 double cab short bed trd off road and 2019 tacoma trd pro. (to keep it similar body style) Both automatic

2019 tacoma trd OR msrp: 36,615. Packages - Premium: 3,660. No Accessories. Delivery, processing, and handling fee: 1,095. Total MSRP as built 41,370.
2019 tacoma trdPRO msrp: 45,515. Packages- None ................No Accessories. Delivery, ........................................: 1,095. Total MSRP as built 46,610.

Note i added packages to the OR to get the more "luxury" interior that comes standard on the pro. Also all these prices are from the zip code i put in, i'm not sure if it varies. So in reality the difference in cost for a similarly equipped tacoma trd off road would be about 5200. So you make the choice if that's worth it to you or not. For someone that wouldn't be modding it and keeping it stock, maybe.

Also i'm sure you are more likely to get discounts off the trd off road than the pro. The point of this is they are not as far in price as people make them out to be. Yes some dealers mark up trd pros (not a fan of it) but you can certainly find deals on them. We're ultimately the ones screwing ourselves because we are still paying for the markups...if you don't buy it they won't sell and simply lower price...but also supply and demand i guess.

I would have bought the Pro if available in Long Bed AND if the CA dealers were not attaching a 10K premium to an already expensive truck.

I have a 2019 DCLB Off Road Tech/Prem. I have all the options I need but would like the extra factory Fox suspension, pro wheels and a few other small visual upgrades. I just don't personally care for the look of the DCSB's and that is just a personal preference.
I think the Pro should have additional HP and larger tires.

So basically you can get Kings instead of their Fox shocks and still have money left over. That's also not counting places like here in SoCal where the pro is marked up like $10k and they refuse to budge

I think this pretty accurate, certainly can get a DCLB Tech/Prem for less than than $41,370 (I have one) but the Pro "True" cost in CA is closer to $50-55 with the stealership mark up. I have seen in the $60's but don't think they truly expect to get that.

No one is making anyone buy those marked up trucks. Travel somewhere else to get a better deal. And yes you can build a more capable truck than the pro with kings, if you go to sell it later on though you aren't going to get that money back.

Yep, the OEM Goodyear tires are the weakest point of our trucks if you go 4x4 wheeling!

gotta get yourself a snorkel BREW.

But yeah I echo what the other said here. Hate it yet imitate it. If you wanna hate on the trd pro you ought to take that chinese pro grill off.

Hahaha you got a good point, but I never said it doesn't look downright beautiful! And it is a very capable truck. I just don't think it's capability is worth the extra price they charge for it.

I paid $100 or so for the grill, maybe $200 for the emblems if/when I get them. That's $300 vs $10,000.

With the remaining 9,300 I could buy
    Full RCI skid package $750
    King suspension front+rear $3000
    JBA UCAs $500
    Deaver leaf pack $1000
    Front bumper $1000
    Winch $550
    High clearance rear bumper 1200
    Light bars $500
    Labor for install $800

It's a rough estimate, but it seems a much better use of the money to me, and would get me a far more capable truck...and that's exactly what I'm going to do with my $10k.

    Plus some wheels/tires...+2k :anonymous:

no question- get the OR LB and don't look back! you wanted a truck right? not a suv with a small and useless bed?! might as well buy a ridgeline
after a few tasteful mods your OR LB will be way sweeter and less expensive. plus you cant get quicksand in the pro either

And that would be a very nice OR. I just personally disagree with trying to make it something it isn't. It's like putting M badges on your 325i. Yeah M badges look cooler, but it still isn't. Yeah you can make your 325i faster than an m3 with how much more an M3 costs, but it's not one. top trim levels are never provided because they help you save money. If the markup was exactly what the parts cost, they wouldn't have any motivation to offer the higher trim level. You'll likely save even more money if you dont even get a OR and get a SR5 and buy a locker! See what I mean here? And on top of that if you go to sell it no one wants a truck someone else molested, and you're not going to get your money back from the mods you put in. You're not wrong, but I'm not sure the point of the comparison.

yeah I think we're misunderstanding each other here. I don't like the grill because it looks like a pro. I like it because it looks better than the ugly chrome one it came with, and better than the aftermarket mesh ones I've looked at too. The fact that it comes on a pro and thats what I like best is pretty much coincidence. Same with the badges, and I'd be getting TRD Off Road look alikes, not marking it as a Pro (which would be what your analogy would call for), because I like the way they look. Not because I'm trying to look like a pro, but because that's just the style that I like. I'm not getting the vinyl trim on the rear that comes with the pro... because I don't like the way it looks. See the pattern here? You get a pro for an all in one package, you get an OR to mod.

I think the main advantage of the pro is you get all the aftermarket upgrade goodies and they're covered under a warranty and everything can be maintained by the dealership at regular service intervals.

Honestly I inherited my truck when my father passed away so I didn't choose what I got. Although OR is the trim level I would have gotten for myself. SR5 doesn't have the crawl control features or multi terrain select that I've come to like. And you can't build that software into a different trim level unlike the rest of these upgrades.

I'm never selling my truck. Sentimental value. Plus Toyotas supposed to last damn near forever, and I'm enjoying not having a car payment. So that's that.

This argument has been made many times before. I'm done now. I hope you're happy with your truck, I'm happy with mine :).
