FS: Motorcycle Tie-Down bar... The BEST one you can buy

Anyone know why the OP discontinued making them or how to get a hold of him? That's a nice product! I have the ability to make the original design, but would not make them without the OP thumbs up.

 

I’m assuming he sold his Tacoma. Hasn’t been logged on the site in a year or two. His website is not active, I wouldn’t think there is any harm to making your own.

 

What I was thinking is making for others. I would like to get a hold of the OP and see what he has to say before selling something someone else came up with.

 

I understand, just not sure how you can. He is no longer on TW and his website is dead.

 

Actually I have no connection and honestly I don't care. Sorry I sounded like I was pushing it. I re-read and agree with you. I like the idea of the original design being steel, but Scout's honor, his front wheel turned and under the washboard road conditions on Copper City Road his 350 Husky fell right in front of me. The positive chock of the version I have hasn't let me down, and I liked the way I could adjust it anywhere I wanted. TBH, I thought the same company made both. I learn a lot from reading other's feedback, so I was just trying to pay it forward. I'm sure they're both good. I just know I like the version I opted for.

I have the tie down bar and I have never had that issue. It honestly sounds like user error. I race motocross and harescrambles and have multiple bikes in the bed almost every weekend and haven’t ever had the front wheel turn on me after I tighten the straps. And that’s on nasty pothole roads (DC/Baltimore roads are horrible)

 

Any of these MC bed tie bars still available for a 2005?

I would consider the ATH, but the two section design essentially has no support in the center to prevent the oem bed / oem bed rail from bending.

 

True, but you are spreading the load across the entire half section and not just the OEM front rail only. Better than without it. I usually only have 1 bike in my bed and I like to tie it down to one side instead of the center. More room for gear bag, etc. When I do haul two bike I tie down to furthest left and furthest right spots. More room in the center for two gear bags, etc. Even when I crank everything down with straps, I don't see any noticeable bending in the bed or OEM front rail using the ATH rail. But if you're still concerned about it, weld the two halves together before you paint it or powder coat it. I think they are separate pieces mostly for shipping ease and assembly. Butt them together on a flat welding table and weld them together. You could also lay some flat stock across the front side and bridge the gap.

 

Exactly. If you were to secure a bike in the center as shown in their ad photos, the two piece design, can flex / bend in the middle, and offers little strength to the oem bed rail.

I considered the idea of getting and welding it. All seriousness, likely better to just buy material and build something with one box tube spanning the width of the bed.
