    Isn't that anchovies?

Wow! My dad and I used to eat sardines together all the time.
He loved to have them out of the can with some crusty bread.

You are correct. However, I don't suppose you'd taste the difference.

Yum, there’s nice ones out there like clover leaf Mediterranean sardines are nice used to be from Norway or millionaires too are good, from Scotland lots of good ones out there Bonta from Spain or Gabriel from Portugal. Brunswick from Canada are good, I prefer them in oil, olive or soy. Just fresh bread toasted with onion and mustard is how I eat them.

You can’t go wrong with good sardines, reasonably priced and they’re healthy and nutritious too!

Generally accepted health benefits of eating sardines:

    Best source of Omega-3
    Good source of Selenium
    Bioavailable Calcium & Phosphorus
    High in vitamin D
    High in Protein
Low in Mercury and Other Metals (compared to other ocean fish)

Only caution is that they are high in purines, which the body converts into uric acid contributing to
to gout arthritis in some individuals, but even then okay if in moderate amounts.

Thank you. We don't have much Aldi around here. They opened one around 35 miles away. I will stop and check.

Fresh sardine is excellent for sushi/sashimi. It has to be super fresh as it degrades so quickly (and that is why you cannot easily find sardine sushi in the USA). You should try it if you ever visit Japan.

Another canned oily fish I buy and eat is Mackerel.
Its usually canned in a brine solution so you need to rinse it out.
I also give it to my Labrador as an occasional change-up for the raw hamburger I mix in his dog chow

Time tested recipe here : Nose hook one on a Owner 4/0 circle hook and toss it into the middle of a Yellowfin boil, hang on tight and fight till your arms are like jelly, then smoke the Yellowfin over mesquite. Seriously, keep it simple, the sardines on crackers with mustard is a great snack anytime. Just get the ones pack in spring water, not packed in oil, they're just... too oily.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
Fresh or canned? Fresh they're good with a sear in a HOT pan or grill. The fillets are thin so they don't need much cooking time but beyond that I don't have any other recipes. Salt Wood in Monterey does good Monterey Bay Sardines when they're in season if you're ever in the area.

Otherwise for canned the water/mustard/hot sauce sardines on some sort of carb is a solid choice and guaranteed to run everyone else out of the same space. Or kippers, TJs canned trout... Never done the oil packed, they're oily enough as is.
