TACUNDRA - 5.7L 3URFE swapped 2nd gen project

Discussion in '2nd Gen. Tacomas (2005-2015)' started by MikieSwartz, Jan 13, 2019.

?

Will I end up with a functional 5.7L Tacoma?

  1. Yes. I watched you're video and I have faith in you.

    37.8%
  2. Probably. I mean, you already have a whole Tundra for parts.

    41.1%
  3. Maybe. If you're a Toyota tech and have an engineering degree.

    14.3%
  4. Probably not. If it was possible, other guys would already have it done.

    7.6%
  5. No. You're blowing smoke or you're delusional.

    7.1%

I like your use of the Tacundra word. The 4.7 in the first gen I did will be a little less impressive next to the Tacundra 2.0 you will be doing, LOL! I also wanted to do this swap, but I haven't got a 5.7 yet. Looks like we will watch you first and see how it goes. I know that you will be successful. It is a matter of what will it take.

When I watched the video, the plug on the firewall that had been torn apart, looked as though some of the wires had been pulled from the plug. Maybe they are not yet connected.

Have you since been able to get it started? Were the issues caused by the fuel being sent?

Try disconnecting the sending fuel line either at the tank and or engine bay. Then crank and see if any fuel comes out.

I've got an update video for the Tacundra swap. Learned about inertia switches and Toyota's version called a "circuit opening relay". I bypassed that to make it run, but now I found a new problem. Nothing I can't handle - just part of the process of buying a wrecked donor truck. Video premiers at 5:30. https://youtu.be/uFYI-0KG7qQ

That was a good diagnostic find with the cam sensors wires.

Why don’t you put the wires back in the plug and test it?

Nice, wires pulled apart at the firewall. I would love to be there. I could give you a hand. I probably would not leave the garage though. You would have to remove me with Bertha and a restraining order, LOL. I just learned some lessons my self with the vvti cam sprockets on the 4.0. As it turns out the 03-04 toyota 4runner had a different design than 05 and up. It took more than a week for me to catch it.

I suspect that after you shoehorn a V8 into your Tacoma you forget about your friends/responsibilities for a while due to an erection lasting for more than four hours.

/still no V8 in my Tacoma...
