I’m thinking about it and wondering if it’s a good way to go. I’ve plastidipped quite a few things but never did a grill. Any tips or tricks appreciated.

Did this when I first got my truck. I liked it a lot for a while but eventually upgraded to a “Pro” grille.

I applied 4 coats of plasti dip, then after I applied 3 coats of clear coat for a glossy look. Lasted for 2 years on the truck and when I took it off it was still glossy.

Looks great, thanks for the reply. That’s good news for me as it’ll
Save me a bit of work. I want it Matt black. Did you do the center logo as well?

I cheated and bought the SR trim. I didn't want to have to re-do it in a few years. It was around 80.00 at my local dealership

Plastidip should stick alright to the chrome. If you're looking for a more permanent solution, sanding it down and a coat or 2 of primer, finished off with a few coats of spray paint should do the trick.

Yup, I rather spend the $400 on anything else. Not a huge fan of spending money on cosmetic stuff.

You guys that have the sensor/radar, was it a pain to work with if you remove the grill?

I’m thinking about just spraying the outside ring cause it’s the only thing that’s chrome besides the actual emblem in front of the sensor, but there’s nothing I can do about that; which kills me cause it’s all I’m going to see now after blacking everything else out...

Grill was super easy to remove. Few bolts and those black clip things. Then you depress the clips and push out that chrome ring.

So the sensor is not attached to the grill?

Why does everyone want to make their trucks all look alike? They spend all this money to buy a TRD and then try to make it look like an SR. I dont get it. Then there is the money spent to make up grades to make it look like a base truck.
Yes I am older than most of you and I have seen fads come and go over the years. Ill stick with what I like. If you like this look then who am I to say. I just hope you are doing this because you like it and not because you want to be like everyone else.

I actually have a Pro grill. I decided to plasti-dip the original just for shits and giggles. I liked it so well I put it back on. I just cleaned it up really good and shot it with rattle cans. six good coats. It's held up well for over a year.

I don’t know what looking like everyone else has to do with it, at least as far as I’m concerned. And unless you’re over 56, I doubt you’re older than me. I just don’t like the way the chrome looks on my truck. Simple as that. I do like the way Black and Tan looks very much.

Having said that, I just got back from the dealership where I ordered a pro grill. I know that seems to be the popular thing on this site but I’ve yet to ever see another Taco in my area with that grill. So having said that, mine is not going to look like every other taco out here. Win for me...:D

Edited to add I think personalizing your vehicle is the real motivation behind most of what people do. I have a ball doing it with mine. I don’t think anyone really wants his truck to look like someone else’s.
