I really love mine but I too would have preferred one slightly weighted. The great thing is you can get a Mustang boot retainer that will screw to the bottom of the shifter threads to be the lock nut and it looks damn good.

Not a great shot of the retainer but this is the knob installed. The retainer is literally any Mustang boot retainer (it was a generic ebay listing) because they share the thread pitch. I'll see if I can snap a shot of the retainer a little better in the morning.

You need access to the underside of the retainer to ziptie the boot in place so you do have to lift the entire center console top piece. It's all just push clips so just pull up around the shifter and work your way back. Once that's up, lift enough to clip the ziptie holding the boot to the OEM retainer, unscrew factory knob (retainer comes off with it), screw on new retainer then knob, clock the knob and use new retainer as lock nut (I also hit mine with a dab of blue threadlocker), then ziptie the boot to the new retainer and reinstall the console.

You will want like 8" but super thin zipties so you can't feel the head through the boot. To get the boot right, you'll want to pull the boot all the way up over the new knob and it'll get stuck on the retainer. Just ziptie it in place there and you'll be good to go. For mine, I had the retainer all the way down the threads and only came up enough to match the ball. Too high and it's going to have the boot too taut in 6th.
