They get torqued to 7 ft-lbs. If you dont have a wrench to go that low, use a 1/4" drive, and get them snug.

Aye, I did exactly that, just the1/4" drive and a grip up close to the ratchet head to make sure I don't over do it. I'm going to go back with a small torque wrench (I got one in in-lbs that I believe goes below 100) just to make sure. Being under 36k miles I don't want to give Toyota any warranty exclusions for something simple like this should I need to bring it in for something.

I forgot to add that the three Denso plugs came out gapped right at 40-41, but the three NGKs were more like 44-45. I put in six Densos as recommended above all gapped at 40. Four came that way straight out of the box but two were a bit wider and I had to close them up a bit.

I hope to get to the fluids this weekend and will start a new thread with some questions on those. Thanks again for the help, Randy:D

Success... Followed the tutorial pretty much to the T. The clip drivers-side furthest left was a PIA to get off... Everything else was fairly o.k. I am buying one of those attachments that articulate a little to have an easier time getting off the driver's side. Seems smoother, plus the butt dyno seems to like it a lot.

Hey I got a question for ya Chris. I am gonna be doing this in a couple days. This is probably a really dumb question, but should I unplug the battery before I start taking the spark plugs out?

Excellent write-up. This job is very straight forward and anyone with any wrenching skills could do it. What this writeup does is give you the peace of mind that you won't get thrown a curve ball and or make a mistake because you didn't follow a special procedure.

    A solid thanks to 4x4

Thanks Chris for this awesome write up! I attempted this today and I was successful! Only took me 3 hours and I have never attempted anything like this. Saved me some mulah too. Only $30 for the spark plugs from AutoPartsWarehouse.com and a couple more for the anti-seize. The only thing that was annoying was unplugging the wire harnesses. Other than that it went smoothly. I definitely recommend other people to try this; just follow this handy write up. TW rocks!

What a world of difference changing out the spark plugs!! Did this at 35000 miles and before heading out on vacation to Garner State Park here in Texas!! Took me no less then 1 hr & 15min first time next time I'm sure it will be allot easier!! Better throttle response plus smooth & quiet as an Indian under the red light!!:D
    Thanks Chris4x4!!

The "U-11" suffix on the plug model number is the designation for pre-gapped plugs at 1.1mm. I've have yet to find a Desno or NKG that was not spot on. I "think" NKG claims their plugs are also pre-treated with some type of anti-sieze surface treatment, but not sure about that -- my memory seems to fail at times. Do not mess with spark plugs in a hot head -- let cool heads prevail! Very good job of "How to".

Agreed, I went to Autozone and got their premium Autolites, installed them and something just didn't feel right, took them out, reinstalled them to make sure something wasn't done wrong the first time. Still didn't feel right. Picked up some Denso plugs from Toyota, running like a champ again.

Your profile on the post doesn't say, do you have a 6 or a 4 ? I'd guess a 6. Wonder if it make any difference on the 4, 2.7 ?

6, Don't know if it makes a difference there, don't know enough about plugs to really know any differences othere than just trying them out. Not sure why the Autolites didn't feel right, there was just a big difference when I swapped them out.
