So true. Shit I live for sweating the small stuff. I've been doing so much better recently until just now though.

I got that from my dad. He's very meticulous. Very. He does woodworking with a micrometer.

I also got short temper and perfectionist. Not the most ideal combination.

I used to be that way. I am still very anal about some things, but have learned to let all the other BS go. Set it free. Has no impact on anything.

    Holy shit thats crazy.

They'll already be here at least 4 weeks early due to twins. They won't let us go past 36.

We haven't had any baby classes. Haven't even looked into them.

Precisely. Since I found out we're expecting I've completely changed my outlooks. I won't be passing that trait down. Lifelong struggle to control reactions.

Flashbacks for me...our son came 14 weeks early. Jen went to a wellness checkup, got admitted, and two days later they were pulling him out. Michael spent his first 13 months in the hospital and I can tell some stories. I know more about NICU/PICU/Peds than I care to...

I used to be like that...still catch myself reverting back sometimes.

We didn't do any classes or any of that shit...we just winged it...we figured people have been doing this for centuries it can't be that complicated.

Ours was 5 weeks early with emergency c-section. My parents had to go out and buy preemie cloths and diapers for us...we weren't prepared for that...then a month after being out of the hospital she got sick and spent another week in the ICU at Levine's.

We had $20k+ worth of medical bills piled up by the time she was 6mo old.

    Please no.

I don't know how y'all do it. I can't even fathom that much time in the NICU.

As close to 36 as possible please!

Also @toysrgood if you have any friends w/o kids, you'll quickly find they will suddenly be off your radar.

It's hard having friend's who aren't married or have kids...you just won't have much in common any longer.

Coming from a social work background, parenting classes are MEH. The only classes I even know ANY of my social work friends took were birthing classes, and those were pretty craptacular too. There is no class that will prepare you for YOUR parenting experience. (this is from someone who assigned parenting classes to caseload families). I always tell people that the best thing to do is laugh as much as you can thru all of it. It is a Murphy Law kinda thing....if it can go wrong (for you), it probably will........BUT.......the world is not gonna end! This view saved my sanity and made for some (still good) stories to share of my son's younger years. I think laughing at all the fuckery actually helps you remember the funny shit more (it aint funny at the time tho).

And FFS, throw out the What to Expect books...........they are all bullshit and leave a TON of crap out bc they are written by "perfect" cases. Shit...............most advice you get will be crap and most of what you read will be too because it is told/written from a "perfect" viewpoint.

I will get off my soapbox..............I just hate these things as they set you up for failure before you even start.

Ours was 35 weeks, didn't need to go to the NICU (just barely though)...it was only afterwards when she got sick.

I don't have any books. Honestly havent done much research.

I think we're probably relying mainly on family and friends input. And instinct.

I'm definitely not all for the "Pinterest perfect". Let's just be functional.

You will do fine! I have MANY friends who, on their second and subsequent babies, avoided birthing in a hospital or any facility. One even had hers home alone and only called 911 after to get checked up on. She and the baby were fine and the EMS were shocked she did it on her own. Like Dan said, the shit is instinctual. It just comes..............slowly sometimes, but ya figure it out.
