When I unhook from a trailer I raise it so the hitch just scrapes over the ball when I pull the truck forward. When I go to hook back up I can feel and hear the hitch scrape and know when to stop. Sometimes the trailer will settle and it won't clear. When it taps I stop and turn the crank just enough to clear. Most times I can just pull the trailer forward enough to go on...not normally more than 2".

Good morning. Today is a "town" day. Gotta get info on the new tanks, find someone that locates underground powerlines and talk to a crane operator. Going to sit with the bosses to give them an update on the direction we're headed with this and get their concurrence. Then I'm thinking this is going to be a short day. Probably longer than a half day....maybe a 3/4 day.

 

Side mirrors. Split the distance between the lines and back straight in.

One thing I really like is power mirrors. When I'm backing up to hitch up a trailer I adjust them down a touch so I can center the truck between the trailer fenders better. Some people don't have power mirrors or they don't think to adjust them to get a better view of the situation.

I have one working camera left on my truck and it's for hooking up to the gooseneck. Mike talked about the moveable camera. My friend at work has one that works with his phone. I'd rather have a dedicated monitor so maybe I'll see about one of those when I get the chance.

I like my rear view camera for hooking up the trailers. Still end up getting out a couple of times to double check it most of the time though. Because seems like the ground is never level, or too dark for a good image.

On the Ranger ended up putting in a Garmin rear view camera and a switch to power it on when I want to see what is behind me. It is wireless and displays on my Garmin GPS when I hit the rocker switch. I don't use it for backing up, then I just go until I tap a tree with the bumper, it is built for that. Max speed on most County roads for a class 2 UTV here is 40 mph and road speed limits are usually 50 in the National and State Forrests. Logging trucks like to haul at 60+. I want to see the SOB before he runs me over, or at least have a chance to try to pull over to let them pass. Dog crate blocks rear view mirror and collapsible side mirrors are usually folded in from the trees on the trails. I like having that camera also.

 

/\ this. Do better that way than with a camera.

Weekly managers meeting now a past thingy...! Went OK. Boss happy with a report I wrote for him. He's been struggling with it for 3 weeks. Far removed from his "expertise", he didn't have a freakin' CLUE. There are a few "indicators" in the report where the next recipient will no doubt know who actually wrote it.
