Had the same issue on my 97 white monte carlo.... full detail, stripping cleaner like ironx and then waxed and buffed....great after that. As other have said this is not your truck rusting, it is environmental debris contamination.

We’ve seen the same type of post at least three times in the last week.

As we all know, this is not body panel rust, but surface contamination rusting. The question it raises for me, is why is it always white trucks with this complaint?

-Is the white paint softer and gets grit lodged in it more easily?

-Are the rust spots just more visible on white paint?

-Does the white paint absorb the colour of the rust?

-Does the chemical composition of the white paint increase the rusting of the metal grit?

I know no one has the answers, but it does always seem to be white trucks that have this issue.

Like everyone said use a fallout remover followed with clay then seal with a good wax or sealant.

My exact experience in my garage as well. I spend more time keeping the white maintained than I do the silver. I assume because the silver has a clear coat and the super white doesn't.

OP, it's easy to remove. Just don't wait a few years then try to get it off. Clay barring is an annual event in my garage.

My paperwork always gets a big ol "No Wash" right across the front if its ever at the dealership. Last thing I'd ever do is let the lowest on the totem pole clay my vehicle. Learn how to do it yourself, it's super easy. The dealership definitely wouldn't take the time to do it properly. They're running through vehicles as fast as they can.

If your wife drive the same roads as you and her car is good then it's probably when they transported your truck to the dealer or you parked in a bad spot and metal dust got on your paint. I wouldn't trust dealership detailers to fix it tho.

Why don’t they clear coat the white? That’s seems to be the issue here.

    Agree with this.

After my accident And I got my 4R back from the collision place I noticed the same exact thing. I could only surmise that it was metal flakes from the repair shop that had embedded in the paint/clear coat and we’re starting to rust. I did a full wash and clay bar and was able to remove it. Haven’t seen the issue reappear since then.

Well, I respectfully disagree with you. It appears as metal flakes embedded into the clear coat and paint that’s rusting and causing the staining. It’s not a defect of the paint or adhesion that’s causing the metal underneath to rust and stain from the bottom up.

If you dump a bunch of metal dust on your truck and drive around and it starts to rust and stain, is it the dealers responsibility to remedy it for you? I don’t think it is.

Confirming it's metal deposit on top of paint, had same issue with natural white 4runner. Polish cleaner to remove then wax. I like Klasse products.

It happens to every color car/truck in the northern states Rusted particles) where road salt is used. (Down south they don't rust as fast) Metal particles embedded in paint, AKA rail dust but other metal particles off of road also. You notice it more on white, more than any other color. Do the sandwich bag test on any truck/car. Put it over your hand and lightly rub it over an area on your truck. It will feel like sand paper. Now Clay bar an area, and redo sandwich bag test, it will be smooth as a baby's ass. Clay bar pulls the particles out of paint.

You're in Ohio?? Its probably because you're located so close to the RAV4 factory in Ontario that it wasn't shipped by train. No train, no rail dust.

edit: Oh wait the RAV4 has the rail dust... I had it backwards that is really weird.

We actually prefer folks only visit. The winters here a insane, not sure even Mainers can survive them. Oh, LLBean has great mail order catalogs, and lobsters can be shipped as well. :stirthepot:

Hit that with a clay bar, then a good sealer wax.

This is a bit of an unfair characterization of how I've treated my vehicle. I've done nothing but drive on roads. Not all vehicles have this issue, especially not after 2 months. And, yes, I do believe that if a specific paint is prone to it, which it seems to be due to a lack of clear coat, I do believe it's Toyota's responsibility (maybe not dealers, but they are the go between).

Thank you for all the opinions. At this point, I am out of state and waiting to get back home. So, further discussion is probably moot.

Has nothing to do with clear coat, heck I got some metal dust on my painted wooden bench when I was drilling something and after a few days it imbedded itself and rusted exactly like your truck. I've fixed a bunch of vehicles with the same problem.
