I have some business to take care of later in the evening but thought I’d head up to San Diego early morning to hit some trails. This is the only trail that has me a little worried because ill be going alone. My only concern is getting stuck or high centering in the second rock garden.

Im on 33s 2” lift, sliders/skids. The 4Runner looks like it begins to loose a bit of traction up front. With our tacos being longer, would i get stuck? My sliders are 0 degree so more of a step.

I'm new to the area from TX, and found that area by accident on my motorcycle. Looking at the trail on google earth, I wasnt able to make it that far due to locked gates.

IS it a club thing, or?????

I haven't done it since all the recent rain, so it could be worse now, but when I went through it (down and then up) it was a piece of cake. Looks more intimidating than it is. BUT with all the recent rain, it could be worse so proceed with caution.

I doubt it? But I’ve never been on this trail so not sure why it may have been closed.
Awesome! Thank you. If I get up to the rock garden and decided to back out, do I have the option? Or is it full one way dedication?
Yeah I try not to, usually I’ll stick to easier trails. Just hard getting other people together and matching schedules. But I know it isn’t the wisest of choices.

    I don’t remember, but it’s a pretty narrow trail.

@Prayn4surf at the top of the hill before the trees is there room to turn around before the rocks?

Might want to call ahead to see if its open. They close the trails when it rains.

Yeah its a mess when wet and they close it cause the trail will get destroyed, and or someone will do something stupid like slide into a creek. Plenty of pin stripe opps on that trail though.

Did you get up there ad drive it? I went up and found locked gates at
    32°44'08.9"N 116°33'27.0"W and 32°44'10.5"N 116°34'45.3"W
Couldn't continue on Los Pinos, which is the only way i know to get near there, by Corral Canyon OHV.

Having lived "near" for only a month, I'm relegated to Google Earth and then go try to find it method of finding trails and such

I went up and found a locked gate so I google mapped a different trail nearby and it gave me another route to go through. I definitely made it much further but the Forset service had the trail closed so kinda pointless in the end.

Bullhickey...I go by myself all the time. Just have to be properly equipped and prepared should something bad happen, and know your limits.

Those that wear flip flops to the trail and don't know what a tool kit is or how to use basic recovery gear shouldn't offroad alone.

I also just try sticking to relatively easy trails, should something go wrong I always let a few people know a time they should be hearing back from me.

Same here, I will rarely ever do a trail solo that I haven't done before, unless I know it's an easy one. There are some moderately difficult trails around here I've done enough times to know them backwards and forwards that I have also done solo a number of times, but trail conditions do change easily overnight esp with bad weather. I've learned that the hard way lol.

Even if I know it's a trail I can do in a couple hours, if I'm solo I always pack 'for the worst', aka a gym back with extra shoes and warm clothes, food and water in case for whatever reason I get stuck overnight. Having good hiking shoes is key in case you need to leave a broken rig behind and hike out for help. Like I said these are worst case scenarios but if you're intent on going solo you have to be prepared for them.

I’ve actually never thought about packing extra warm clothes, that’s a great idea. I’ve been meaning to buy one of those little Garmin GPS receivers. Kinda pricey but I’ve spent so much money on the truck, having something that could potentially save my life is priceless.

yeah those are good to have, I know they're popular amongst hikers/backpackers that go out on hikes alone all the time. I don't see offroading alone as being any different than hiking miles out into the backcountry alone - as long as you're properly prepared/equipped, you'll be okay.

Of course there are certain things one can't be fully prepared for and may or may not happen, but that's just life. Best you can do is try and minimize the risk involved

We have all done it, but I still say; Never go by yourself. What would you do if you needed to kill Bigfoot? He's a badass. Never go into the Woods alone. Good luck.
