I remember several years ago, when LED light bars didn't even exist, using a handheld searchlight to set up camp in the dark hand in inclement weather.

Maybe Xzibit pimped out his Tacoma with 8 light bars when the owner told him he likes to off road?

It's not required or needed by some, obviously. But denying how it could be beneficial for camping or emergency situations is just you being  we get it, you don't like them.

Are light bars the huge spoilers phase of this generation?

Not sure if this reference has been mentioned already.

Unfortunately its second nature at this point. I see so many dudebros on the road with them on. At night even! Dont even flash mine, still use high beams. Doesnt matter, still flip me off like I'm in the wrong. I'm just happy it's mostly jeepers and kiddos driving daddy's full size, our local taco scenes' rep stays solidified

It is illegal to have them on the local streets and highways. Call the non emergency line and report his plate...shouldn’t be hard to spot from the Police POV lol

This is no different albeit more extreme than people running their fog lights constantly. In fact it’s this sort of idiocy that led to manufacturers wiring (programming now) fog lights to not work when the main lights are off (thus defeating most of their purpose) or when the high beams are on.

But just to really pick a fight it’s also no different than you inconsiderate douchebags that run huge offsets without mudflaps. Because stance and your sense of aesthetics is way more important than controlling spray and flying rocks.

It’s really hard to be libertarian in a world full of assholes.

    Flame on

Exactly. I usually hit the dirt leading to my main camp about 9pm at night after a 6 hour drive from home. An then have another 3 to 5 hours or so (depending on weather and just how shitty trails are) and 60 or so miles down sometimes fast, and oftentimes rough primitive roads to my main hunt area base camp. All of that without another vehicle in sight usually (except for the occasional camp on the way in). It is a long drive, and it is dark. Throw in any kind of mud splashing up on the lights, and it gets too damn dark to see a damn thing in short order.

Then there's the daily drives to jump off spots at 4 a.m. to hike to the top of the mountain or canyon edge before first light. Then hiking back to the truck and driving back to camp after last light.

Do that for one or two days, let alone for weeks on end, and most will see the value in auxiliary lighting. Headlights SUCK in those conditions. Throw in a little mud, and they are useless beyond seeing anything short of a snowman in a reflective vest much more than 10' in front of the truck.

But I get the point (to a point). I wonder how many light bars we see that have ever actually been turned on while off pavement? Probably a pretty small fraction. But thankfully the demand for these by the sheer number those who don't use / need them has created a nice market and some serious quality options for those that do!

What did we do before low amp draw, bright ass light bars?

    Bright ass Piaa Pro 80XT's!!!

So no, not everyone that runs them is using them solely for flashing the asshat that cut them off, or to illuminate runaway shopping carts in the mall parking lot. :D

    Damn. Really? Anything beyond factory?

Honestly inquiring, I'll be in Kamloops in May and I was planning on getting some ditch lights before we go given the backroad nature of some of our side trips.
