    Is this mod possible?

My SR5 has the garage door opener deal...I'd rather have the compass and outside temp feature.

Can it be done?...who has done it?...will my dealer service dept do it?...Ideas on cost?...

    TIA

The wiring is already there. IIRC the whole upper console needs to be replaced since the temp/compass doesn't fit into the hole right.

    Well that's a bummer. :(

So...is the temp sensor already placed on the truck somewhere?

I think there is a difference between the 09+ and the 05-08. There is a programming difference.

Some have said that the wiring for the sensor is already there, but I cant find it on mine. Also if you don't have the sensor. It should be between the grill and radiator on the vertical support. You should see the holes for it.

The 09+ isn't just a basic programming change, the whole system was changed. The signal for the temp sensor now comes from the A/C control logic over the vehicle bus.

There is only 2 screws holding the console up and snaps, Remove the 2 screws and pull firmly but carefully down, then unclip the wire harness to prevent the wires from being stressed. 2 min job literally

Just called my local dealer to ask if I could replace my stock garage door opener/sunglass holder with the compass/temp gauge. he says "no" on my 2010 Dbl Cab.

That does n't sound right but he says Toyota does not sell it as after-market part. is he right?

I bought a used 2008 and asked about having the temp/comp installed and they said it would cost around $400. My wife told me to just stick my head out the window to see how cold it was.

I bought a used '09 temp/compass console - Toyota calls it an "Accessory Meter" - and simply replaced my standard '10 overhead console with it. I believe there was just one screw in the console holding it in place and 2 latches by the windshield. Removal was quite easy. The wiring for the display is there, clipped into a "dead" socket on the back of the standard console. The temperature sensor was already installed in my engine compartment and located behind the vertical strut that's in front of the radiator. There are a few threads on this site describing how to switch the console out. I am not certain, but I believe you can buy the entire console from a dealer or on-line at one of the Toyota parts suppliers.

I paid a whole lot of money for my used console, but I do use it and I don't regret it buying it.

Good luck in your search; the '09+ are hard to find. I haven't seen another since I bought mine.
