I understand that. Regardless this third brake light is pretty sick and we are lucky to have a guy like meso designing stuff like this for our trucks.

Basically the boards and screws. Here is a picture before any paint was sprayed.

I like your idea of blackening out the board and screws. I will probably try to use tape to cover the actual LEDs though.

Painted over the LEDs, and cleaned the paint off with the acetone and q-tips.

Not a bad idea. Are you planning on cutting little tape rectangles, or taping over the entire light and trimming with a razor knife?

I just spray the entire thing, then take a rag with acetone and wipe the tops of the LEDS. Forget trying to cut little squares to make each one off.

I will try cutting little rectangles shape pieces of tape one of the lights and then try Meso's idea on another light.

You only really need one set amount of tape for one light and then just reuse the tape on the next light, as long as the tape sticks to the led it should still work. That's the theory.

Way to much work. After the second light you will use the acetone. Trust me

You and Meso are probably right. Acetone sounds alot easier and faster.

It appears the BD rock lights have gone through a few revisions over the years. In 2016 they had a round opening over the leds without the laser etched logo, then later on started etching. Then sometime in 2017 they switched over to a hexagon opening. Now the current larger versions appear to have a round opening.

If anyone is in need of the smaller white rock lights pm me. I know this doesn't really help if you are ordering a current third brake light, but I do recall some people frustrated of the size change and already had the smaller red lights, and if memory serves me correctly, Stew said he'd make the original size brake light upon request. But don't hold him to that, cuz my memory sucks.

I have 3 round and 3 hex. Only 1 round has the laser etched logo's.

P.S. - I do not work for BD. Just don't want to give anyone the wrong idea.

Little off topic, but does anyone want to sell their stock light? My lens is cracked and just looking to replace it. Hard to find the ones that came on the double cabs. Send me a pm if you have one. Thanks

Ok so in reference to my previous post that I’ve quoted, I misread the description of the plugs and terminals I linked. They utilize Toyota 2.3 type terminals, NOT 1.3 like the stock brake harness. Either way I’m still buying the products I linked and just going to strip and repin the brake light +/-

The only website I can find that looks half legit and sells the 1.3 type pins is in Japan. On top of that no one sells a 1.3 type plug so I’d have to source a random 4 pin (minimum) plug male and female from Toyota or elsewhere. Not worth the time sourcing all that crap.

No pics to show it, but I just go to the dollar store and buy the $1 pack of alphabet stickers, cut up the L's, I's and whatever else is straight, stick those on the leds. Meso's way is quicker, but who doesn't like stickers? :)
