Euro nymphing is the only way to go, indicators are the worst! If I have to use an indicator, I usually opt for a hopper/dropper

Time and place for everything lol

Sometimes you can’t get close enough to present without a bobber, and it’s the best way imo to keep a long drift going in a boat

    But

Tight lining is usually a better way to get your offerings deep and drag free and I’ve always maintained that the most successful fishermen you’ll see on a river will be bobberless

But damn do I like to see/hear that indicator dive and take off upstream :)

What do you use the 9WT for? Windy conditions?
I got a 9WT and wish I woulda gotten an 8 WT. Way more versatile.

I'll let you know next time I plan on going somewhere.
To be honest with you I've never fished Tenkara. Looks okay for a small stream but nothing more. Could be wrong.

Inshore salt when I lived in Florida. I use my 7wt anytime I can get away with it, but if I'm throwing in the wind it definitely helps to use the 9wt. I got a full sink line for it and plan to try for some muskie in Fontana Lake eventually.

Ha! I knew someone would point that out. Fair enough! It’s hard to not think about fishing when fish are your life. I am planning our snorkeling monitoring today.

Very true! I avoid the indos at all costs, but sometimes they are needed. If I'm tight lining, sometimes I'll throw one on real quick to cover a bit of water I can't reach, then take it off and keep tight lining.

The only time I truly embrace the indicator is on Pyramid Lake!

A mix bag. We have a few places we restored passage to but haven’t monitored. I’ll be looking for chinook/steelhead presence there. I will also be doing it to monitor a stream I will be reclaiming/restoring next year. Some streams is just to look for invasive mussels and document amphibian presence.

That’s amazing that a fish can swim to Wyoming from the pacific despite the innumerable obstacles :)

The desire to get laid is a powerful motivator lol

Unfortunately my crew will consist of only me this year. But I agree on both of those places. I feel so lucky to work in the field I do and in the location I am.
