@Jaypown I was driving through a town on my way home...and was ticketed for my tint. I didn't stay there-I was driving through. My vehicle is registered in a completely different state WHERE IT IS LEGAL.

Was it legal in the town that you were in? Your registered state laws don't follow you everywhere you go. You don't need a front license plate in PA but if you drive into Ohio without one, you're at risk of getting a citation. I personally love window tint, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of driving where it's illegal.

Then take it to court, fight it, state that it's unfair that you were passing through, and try and get it dismissed. Trust me, i'd be pissed to pay that ticket too so i'm all with you.

Obviously it wasn't legal in the town, or I wouldn't have written this post! I travel ALOT and have ALWAYS had tinted windows- I had NO IDEA that just driving through a state I had to modify my vehicle!!! I think that it's BULLHOCKEY!!!

You were not targeted/profiled for driving a nice truck or having an Alabama license plate. That's not a thing. Your window tint was super dark, which is something they strictly enforce.

Your tint was also not factory. You bought a used truck that had aftermarket tint on it. It does seem odd that GA can cite out of state vehicles for it, but a little googling shows that the GA Supreme Court ruled that their tint law can't exclude out of state vehicles. That update was from 2004, I couldn't find anything newer. It's interesting, because in my state you can only enforce tint for vehicle's registered in my state.

    Another edit:

"The previous Georgia law against tinted windows was struck down by the Supreme Court of Georgia in Ciak v. State, 278 Ga. 27, 597 S.E.2d 392 (2004), on constitutional grounds because it treated residents differently from nonresidents."

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
I run illegal on my side windows. No front strip. Never been hassled in 12 years driving the truck. Sides are matched to factory rears, my State's limit is 50%. Around here, it's the front strip that gets LEOs attention. Many will extend below the legal line. It's not difficult even when driving past a vehicle to see that the strip is illegal. Once they know for sure they have a violation, they pull you and see what else they can find.

Fight it. Cop is trying to generate revenue. Being a peace officer is not suppose to mean being a tax collector. Law enforcement is just as bad as the mafia.

That DOT code is not the tint amount, sorry to burst your bubble. It's the Federal DOT registration number of the glass company that made the window.

If there's a tint film on your glass, it's aftermarket. Factory tint is in the glass, not on it.

AS2 is referring to the impact test rating. M100 is the glass manufacturer's part number, etc.

Your tint is not from the factory.

Anyway. You got a ticket for something that is against the law in Georgia. Whining on TW isn't going to fix it. Your options are to appeal the cite or pay it.

You weren't targeted for anything other than your tint. You weren't discriminated against, you weren't profiled because you drive a 2014 Tacoma or because you have steps on it. You were stopped because you have dark tint and cited accordingly, that's as simple as it gets. Pay or appeal, move on.

Edit: The AS2 rating on your glass also indicates that it has at least 70% light transmission from the factory.

The glass is branded/etched Toyota, so the glass is OEM. If it's front glass, and tinted any substantial amount it's not factory tint. IMO it would be more effective for @awmannme75 to measure the glass, as opposed to just comparing pictures with others on the internet:

    https://www.amazon.com/Laser-Labs-Meter-Enforcer-TM1000/dp/B00P6V7TO8

Especially if she wants any hope of proving the tint is not illegal by Georgia standards.

I gave you advice and info on your tint, but you don't seem to want to accept it.

    Facts:
    It's not factory
It's illegal by GA state law
    You were cited for it

    Options:
    Pay it or appeal it.

If you want to appeal it, I recommend removing the tint and having proof that you removed it. You probably have to go back to GA to appeal it, so paying it is likely your easiest option.

What are the chances you have the balls to walk up to a car with tinted windows at 2am in the morning in a bad part of town. With your response, Im thinking zero. Tints laws are out there for a reason.

Mmhmmmm....and so are ID laws right? Such as...in some states if you're WALKING down the street and you're asked for it, you have to provide ID. Why? What, pray-tell, is the "good reason" for that?

It's so they can run you and see if you have any warrants, even though they have no reason to think you do, in the hopes they can..............wait for it.............generate more revenue. So epack's argument that they don't care about revenue is complete lunacy. Without revenue, jobs get cut....guess what jobs are some of the first.
