i want to do a very simple lift (3inch). Everyone is saying get the Bilstein 5100...is that all i need? Are they a universal shock? (Reason i ask that is becasue i see that they are being sold for under 300 for the 2015s and lower on Amazon) And where do i purchase these for a 2019? Thank you for all the help!

no, 3rd gen frontend weighs 300lbs more than the second gen. Shocks may be the same, but you will need different springs. Stock OR spring is 700#

Also 3" is the max you can do before a drop bracket lift. If you care about longevity 2" is better for your CVs

Didnt know there was difference. New to all this. Im looking for a lift to where it doesn't require a lot of other changes. I want to use the truck for easy/moderate off roading while still being a good daily driver

Go with something around 2”. Far less potential for problems and should be sufficient for your needs. Bilstein 6112/5160 is a good intermediate option

Shocks don't provide lift, spring and coils do. So the coil or spring will determine your height. The front will require a coilover or strut assembly, the rear will require new leaf pack, add-a-leaf or something else.

I say keep it stock for now, it will handle your stated needs just fine as is. Save up for some coilovers, higher end shocks and complete rear leaf packs

A super cheap lift kit is going to be spacers in the front and blocks in the rear (literally just lifting your truck up and putting little metal spacers to make it higher). A little better is something like the coilover replacements in the front, some kind of new shock in the back, and some kind of add-a-leaf (AAL) for the rear. Without a block or AAL in the rear, you're going to end up with a heavy bro lean (staring at the sky).

There are tons of complete kits at different price ranges.

I'm in the same boat. I haven't done a lift yet, but feel like I'd really rather be about 2" higher. I don't want to mess up the geometry or handling as it's my daily driver but also want some off road capability for roads similar to the pics below.

Truth is, I have been on roads like that and some I'd say were worse (or better depending on your perspective) in my stock Tacoma and it did just fine. It's really a pretty capable vehicle off the lot. I do need to get some sliders and maybe skids and those are probably more important than a lift. I'd say drive it as is or better yet add sliders and see how it goes.

Just keep in mind that the armor (skids, sliders, bumpers, etc.) is going to weigh you down and affect your approach angles/clearance... So even an inexpensive suspension lift is totally worth it, if only to accommodate the additional weight. And yes, this might be a little lame, but the lift is probably the single biggest cosmetic change you'll make. Even something in the 1.75" - 2" range (mine) really changes the look of the truck -- gives it a little more aggressive stance.

That's why I went with the ARB/OME kit, just the nitrochargers not the BP-51s. Been very happy with it. I got the "heavy kit" with the 886 front springs since I added a steel bumper and winch.
