This happened to me maybe 3 different times early on with my truck. Would be backing up a hill or something, truck would stall and be unresponsive to restarting. Once in the middle of traffic (yikes!). This was way back in 2016 and I think it was something about the bad crankshaft position sensors they had on the early trucks.

Hasn't happened since I got that replaced so might be a place to start?

Longer than you should ever expect to crank a modern car. Maybe 3-5 seconds, which actually feels like a long time.

I’ve said it in a few other posts but I’ve just never experienced this with any other MT car, hence my original question. Other people have reported the same condition and maybe it is just an odd quirk of this engine. I’ve had two MT rangers, a MT explorer sport and a MT focus and never had this. I guess those were all Fords though, if that matters. Any time those stalled it was just a matter of turning the key again and getting on my way.

lol im pretty sure he didnt sit there with a stopwatch to time it.

What different does it make if it was 10 seconds, 20 seconds or 30 seconds? either way the result was the same and it shouldn't take that long...

    Thank you, OP.
3-5 seconds. Yeah, it would feel like a long time. Bet you $10 that if you held it for 20 seconds, it would have started. Or, as you observed, just giving it a few seconds rest and/or reset the computer will also do the job.

Look bro, if you dont have time to accurately measure your crank time to the nearest millisecond maybe this hobby isnt for you.

OP here. I stalled once under the same conditions. In gear, brake on, not paying attention. I guess good to hear I’m not alone but still confused by it.

And @deav FWIW: Yours and mine have different engines (mine's the 2.7), yet behave the same when stalled. However, mine doesn't do it persistently except when cold. When hot, it "usually" starts right back up.

Yeah. I may just test it again by turning the key to off and trying again immediately. I said in another post that I just need to remedy so my wife knows what to do if she stalls it.

it seems the resolution is to turn it off, remove the key, then try again. that's what I did on my truck then it started. wouldn't surprise me if theres something in the ECU that gets confused and needs a cycle to figure itself back out.

I have stalled mine before while distracted, and it starts right back up. So either something is wrong with your truck or you are not depressing the clutch all the way.

Also note that the clutch engagement will get a lot smoother as the surfaces smooth out. That will tend to reduce how often you (or she) stalls it. Usually the only time I stall it any more (200,000 km) is when I'm in too much of a hurry while plowing snow.
