I hear yah, highest speed limit on our roads is 90kmh which I think is around 55mph. I dunno if I’ve ever done 90mph in anything other than my Sporty

If I had a choice my truck would have a 6spd manual, manual transfer case shifter, and manual locking front hubs. Done. In this day and age, 1out of 3 ain’t bad.

You want to get out of your vehicle to lock the hubs?

Why Manual? Well for me its simple. Automatics are freakin boring to drive.. A manual gives me something to do, it's fun to run through the gears. I owned 2 Autos in my life 1 was a full size Chevy and in that case I think the Auto was okay being big and cumbersome but again I got bored quick. Sure its great to be able to kickback with my Big Mac and not worry about shifting. An sure if I lived in LA I probably would get tired of stop and go traffic, but that's not the case for me. With my current 4 banger Taco. I can’t imagine how lame it would be to drive without the manual. It’s so slow the only joy I get is being able to rev it high and mess with shifting giving myself some desperate illusion of speed. Everything is going to automatic , an now all the modern cars have all kinds of safety crap that basically drives the car for you, it just feeds into the dumificaiton of our society. Bunch of lazy people who cant check their mirrors or turn their head to check for traffic because some computer is going to tell them someone’s there (getting off track).. To each their own I guess , but ill be sad the day I cant get a manual trans.

Leave the hubs locked when the possibility of 4WD is needed, unlock when need is gone. I used to lock my hubs the first snow, unlocked in the spring, saves a lot gas in the summer months.

    Ummm superior control.

    Huge fun factor.

Super rare and potentially much better resale.

My junk instantly got bigger when I bought it......

Seriously. While some of those doodads are pretty useful, most of them just enable bad driving habits (i.e. lane departure warning).

I was driving through the mountains in NoCal a couple weeks ago, was maintaining 70 plus and truck was running good with cruise control on. After a while I was climbing a hill, and the truck jerked, like I was switching out of 4wd around a turn(just to imagine). And the cruise control shut off.. at the time, truck had under 2k miles.. think I was maybe just riding in 6th gear for too long, but everything seems to be fine still. Idk. Was an odd situation. But I feel ya on the shitty mileage. A buddy told me to just wait til I have a decent amount of miles on the truck. At 2300 now.

Well for me all I personally own is M/T Toyota's, 2 80's 4x4 pickups, and a 1970 Landcruiser FJ40 and my 16 4x4 Tacoma so I'm alittle biased when it comes to M/T and A/T. Aslong as my body allows me to own a M/T, that's all I will ever own. For me personally nothing about driving brings me more joy them getting to row and shift through the gears on my in own personal vehicle, in a way I just feel more grounded to the vehicle and in control. Now I've owned a few autos in my life and every single one of them has never lasted longer than 200K miles and for me that is unacceptable. A M/T is more reliable and dependable than any auto could ever be. And it is way easier to rebuild a manual and alot cheaper too. So for me at 26 yrs of age I had saved enough to be able to pay cash for a brand new truck, and my goal was to only buy 1 brand new truck and keep it for the rest of my life so it needed to last for the next 30+ yrs and atleast 500K miles I figured, so I purchased a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Off-road DCSB

Manuals are more reliable and durable and alot easier to work on or to rebuild. Because this is the only new truck I will ever buy it needs to last the next 50 years and 500K + miles, so that's why chose Toyota and that's why it's a manual transmission, because I KNOW it will hold up to the wear and tear of daily driver miles and off-roading/rock crawling hobbies. And as of now I have 120K miles on my 2016 Tacoma and I have not had one single complaint or issue regarding the transmission or clutch, or any other part of the truck. And if I could have had it my way from factory it would have a manual transfer case and manual locking hubs with a solid front axle. To each their own though! Automatics do have their place though too and they serve a purpose.

It really comes down to a difference in mindset. Some people like feeling connected to the engine, some people find it tedious and just want to push the pedal and go. I agree with the guy that said if you have to ask, you just won't get it.

AT's have come a long way, but they will always be a machine that reacts to input from the pedal. I personally hate the way they drive. The jerkiness, economy tuning, 4.5k wraps coming off a stop light while barely pushing the pedal, searching for gears in quick brake/accel situations. And, that lag when you stomp on it, ugh. Half the time I'm driving a slush box, I'm trying to manipulate the pedal/brake to give the computer a heads up on what I want from it.

Not to mention the other added benefits. I left my stick Civic unlocked, moonroof open parked in the stall next to my neighbors locked auto Civic. They stole hers, lol. It's also nice when people find a reason to drive your truck and "oh, wait, never mind" :D I'll teach my significant others before I'll sell my manuals.

Why would we want to be running 5-10 mph under the speed limit, blocking traffic? Probably in the left lane too! GTFO of Texas!
