I have a 2016 Tacoma, 71,000 kms. Just like everyone else hating the excessive shifting on the 6 speed lol

Since last Friday it’s been making this terrible sound in reverse and under acceleration. Like a chatter rattle. I brought it to a local shop and they pulled off the drums looking for something wrong and checked my diff and said it all looked fine.

Today I was hauling a small trailer of firewood and noticed I only
get the sound under acceleration, as soon as I would slack off the gas and coast it would stop.... then when I pulled out on the highway I noticed the chatter sound exactly matched the RPM, even as it shifted it got quiet then picked up at the same rate the RPM was progressing.

Anyone have any ideas or running into anything like this? Pretty weird, maybe it’s something to do with the transmission or TC if it’s matching the RPM?

High pressure fuel pump. Known issue I believe there was a TSB on it

It sounded like a chatter under the truck under acceleration? Intermittent?

Does it sound like metal ringing in the rear right side of the engine bay?

Solved. The dealer found a “skid plate” I think a heat shield near the fuel tank that was bent and rubbing on the drive shaft
