Can someone clarify Step 4, "Screw actuator in place using supplied hardware."? I've got my two holes, and the hardware includes 4 silver screws, 2 brass lock washer plate things (that's what it looks like they do) and 3 stubby brass screws with a brass block with 3 holes and a trough. Looks like that block is for the actuator rod.

What I'm thinking is the screws are mounted through the holes from the top, and the lock washer plates go in between the actuator body and metal portion of the tailgate. However I'm having a hard time getting the screws to screw and I'm worried I'll render the holes useless if I try to force it.

some people use the 2 silver sheet metal screws to attract actuator to the tailgate.....i would re-think that....see my post 984......

Very detailed install. I'll be using that for routing, which I'm doing now until I figure how to mount the actuator. I don't have tubing or foam like you do. I'll just mount it direct and assess the noise and stability. I don't mind opening her back up again if I need to tack down some foam.

mounting the actuator is the most difficult item because you have to be sure how you are going to connect the rod to the arm on the handle.....it makes a big difference because of the way in which the rod moves and how you insert the rod in the eyelet......those things took me along time to decide with trial and error......all in all, i'm happy....very little noise....it sound better than any OEM i have listened to and looks like OEM .....to take apart and remount the actuator would be a pain in the butt......and the new holes you would have to drill maybe too close and intersect.....my recommendation si to spend the extra time and think out the actuator mounting place....good luck

That's sound advice. I have it in line with the hole I drilled in the black plastic arm, per the instructions. The tailgate is unlocked.

do your measurements with the tailgate unlocked and the actuator fully retracted......

i almost went off last night and did not connect the rod back to the orange locker.....fortunately i had not closed my tonneau cover....had i done that, i would not have been able to open the tail gate and had to break in......hahahah

also take notice whether you want the top of the rod at N, E, S, or W position as it comes out of the eyelet.....makes a difference on where you drill holes for actuator and how you would have to bend the rod......trial and error and patience.....take your time.....i did and i am glad it did....there are many ways to mount the actuator and run the rod.......just figure out how and what you want, the picture it and manually open and close the actuator to see what things line up......remember, it is measure many times and cut/bend once......take your time

Thanks for the help. I got it mounted. I...may or may not have used a smaller drill bit initially. Can neither confirm nor deny. With properly sized holes the screws secured the actuator no problem. The system works! I see a very minor flex near the handle as the actuator actuates. I don't think that should be an issue overall, however.

Unfortunately, the bullet connector on the blue wire of the wire run did come off and I wasn't able to crimp it back on securely so I'll run over to Lowe's and get a new one. The test only worked because of a shoddy electrical tape job that is in no way intended to be permanent.

Solid product and very pleased I was able to do this on my own in about 3 hours! 10/10, would recommend and buy again.

great news.........funny you mention the bullet connectors......all of mine came off.....not happy.....but went to Home Depot and got new ones and crimped them on and gave a tug.....now all good.....i am really happy i was able to do this.....lot easier than taking out my BMW motorcycle speedometer circuit board and soldering a jumper wire to make it give me correct speed and match up with the GPS.....

only thing i did not do yet was to cut off ends of tie wraps.....

Glad you made it with that 1.5” of strain relief  These butt connectors are really upsetting to be honest. I haven’t really heard anything from anyone recently and I’m taking that as a good thing as I’m thinking it was just that group of like 12, but still. I do know these last few batches there shouldn’t be any of them falling off. I pulled and tugged on each of them before shipping. I’m glad everyone is starting to get their kits in the mail.

I will be getting to more of the new order updates tonight and tomorrow. ;)
