    Looks awesome! I wanna get a head to port... haha:)

    Out of curiosity, why are you doing a balance shaft delete though? I've heard a lot of opinions about that and it seems like the gains don't outweigh the negatives, at least for something I'd like to daily drive.

    For a DD there's not really a point to it. When I decide to wrap this thing out to 10,000 rpm the shafts will inevitably grenade themselves and ruin my nice pretty parts! Also there is a lot of reported oil pressure loss at high RPM from the balance shaft galleys. That is eliminated by the removal of the shafts and subsequent plugging of their oil galleys.

    Nice. Yeah I wouldn't be building for 10K.

    So what are you doing for cams? I'm guessing you have to go custom ground?

    I wouldn't suppose there would be an easy swap like stealing half a valve cover's worth off a Tundra V8, or switching out an exhaust cam into the intake side... or at least not one that's feasible to rev to the moon.

    That's what I loved so much about my Miata, you could get a junkyard performance cam for $30 and a little machine work. Find an exhaust cam, mill off the cam position sensor tang, and drill a cam gear for the locating dowel pin to be flipped to intake phasing.

    Best bang for the buck I have ever done on a car, ever. Around $200 all told and you got a gnarly cammed out idle, a big horsepower bump at the top end, and it felt glorious to rev out.

    30 bucks for cams?! Im gonna use that precedent when shopping prices :rofl:

    I am part of the R&D so I will be seeing what stock cams can handle, and then they have a set of cams they will make a custom grind on for me. The VVTi presents potential issues, but I think it will be fine with the Haltech controlling it. As far as I know, there are no shortcuts for the 2TR, so I will have to keep pressing to innovate more.

    :D Well Mazda/Ford made about a million of those damn BP motors, through the mid to late 90's they were in Ford Escorts, Mazda Protege, Mazda 323, Mazda Miata, Kia Sephia, Mercury Tracer... suffice it to say, an appropriate exhaust cam with no appreciable journal wear is not exactly a rarity.

    I actually got mine from another Miata because I lived right near a specialist Miata only wrecker. Suffice it to say he was also knee deep in cams. :laughing:


    I did some ebay sleuthing and it looks like Tundra cams have their journals in a completely different layout, so strike that one out, no easy shortcuts for us!
