Tell us which models WERE steaming turds ...

Driving 50 miles in one night in a vehicle with 95 000 miles isn't a rare event. For any manufacturer. FYI

Another aunt and uncle owned two different Plymouth Voyagers. They had a 1986 Plymouth Voyager from 1986 to 1997, and a 1997 Plymouth Voyager from 1997 to 2009.

The 1986 was owned simultaneously with the 1997 for a couple of months and then sold privately. The 1997 was still running and had about 170K on the clock and was traded for new RAV4 Limited in August 2009, under the "Cash for Clunkers" program. My aunt and uncle still have the RAV4, which has like 130K on it. They also have a 2002 Nisan Frontier and a brand new Highlander.

Okay, 50 miles was a bad example, but let's see...

    Steaming turds:

    1998-2004 Dodge Intrepid
Anything with the 2.7L V6 (including certain Dodge Intrepids)
    2007-2010 Chrysler Sebring
    ANY Dodge Caliber
    1998-2003 Dodge Durango
Plymouth Prowler (it looked cool, but it was a piece of junk)
All Fiat products except the Abarth
    Jeep Patriot
    Jeep Compass
    2007-newer Jeep Liberty
    Certain K-cars
2003-present Dodge/Ram trucks that don't have the Hemi or the Cummins

    @Sharpish

    Missed one!

The 2007-2011 Wrangler JK, because they had a 3.8L V6 sourced from the Dodge Caravan, which had no business whatsoever in a 4x4. My friend had a 2011 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. The Jeep was absolutely beautiful, dark red with a beige leather interior. It had great A/C and a killer stereo system, but it also had a 4-speed automatic slushbox. That Jeep could not get out of its own way on the highway, and my friend ended up turning it back in years before the lease was up because he didn't feel safe driving it at highway speeds.

I like some of the earlier renderings. The side is okay but the back and front are ugly. Loved my old yj Jeep but wouldn’t trust it on build quality. Especially with Fiat at the reins

The Gladiator is pretty awesome... Tons of cool features that come stock. Still curious about the price tiers...

Not gonna lie, I have never wanted any Chrysler product before.

BUT... I have to say I would absolutely love to have a Gladiator Rubicon. Not as a daily driver though, I'll keep my Taco for that. Nothing replaces Toyota reliability for me. But dang is that thing good looking IMO. And with 4x4, dual lockers, speed control, manual trans, removable top like the normal Jeeps, solid axles front and rear, over 7,000lbs towing capacity, METAL BED... There'll be some great suspension offerings from the aftermarket no doubt, and thinking about one of those on 35s, I'm just thinking "Man I want one."

But whatever, I'm a 21 year old guy who has no reason to own two vehicles, and can't think of a single reason I can't use my Taco that's all paid off for everything I would use that Gladiator with a big payment for. Plus my current truck puts a smile on my face as it is. I'm just glad I didn't buy a 3rd gen.:crapstorm:

Lots of cool stuff going on and I'm sure the Jeep community it will go nuts.

But. But. It's just so ugly in my opinion. Fugly. I'd never buy one.

I'm no fan of Chrysler products, but I think the wrangler is probably the only vehicle you can buy today, that will still have a strong aftermarket in 20-30 years. You can buy any part for any "Jeep" ever made. Nothing comes close. The running gear may take a shit at 20 years and 150k, but you will be able to replace it with something new and improved, without searching out some guru that hides in the hills, ala old Land Cruisers...

My boss has a 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn HEMI 4x4, a 2015 Wrangler Unlimited, and a 1997 Wrangler. The 1997 Wrangler has over 180,000 miles on its original 2.5L 4-banger and 5-speed handshaker; it has mechanical "hiccups" every now and then, but that old Jeep refuses to die. My boss runs a detail shop, so of course all of his vehicles look brand new.

I must say I do like the new Ram pickups...

The state of this example makes me sad though!

Now, if only they would offer the Wrangler and Gladiator with a HEMI from the factory!

I know not all midsize truck owners want an off-road oriented truck but I’m curious to see how sales will compare in the segment once it’s released.

You can get discounts on the Rubis too, I've seen as much as 5+% off invoice. Should bring the price down to about 40-41k. Supposedly the remaining trim level prices will be released at 12:01AM tomorrow.

    Someday...
To the haters (or otherwise mildly disagreeables)...ugly and Jeep go hand in hand. But that is the point of their attraction - for decades. Well that and their off road capabilties. It really is a brilliant combo for a legend of an off road vehicle manufacturer.

JEEP = ugly, utilitarian, blocky, unrefined, function over form :hattip:
