I didnt ask before I bough but I’m hoping these are universal from gen 2 to gen 3

 

Pretty close but not exact, the second gen is a little harder to remove.

Should be of note to always disconnect the battery when messing with the airbag.

 

Do you make them for 2nd gen? i dont really want to search 22 pages lol... sorry im lazy tonight.

 

Post #379 @DiamondW did a write up. They will fit with some slight modifications. Not sure about overlays, but I imagine they will fit no issue since the overall dimensions are the same.

 

@metrick1215 let me know if you have any questions. It’s not the hardest install on an 05-11, I did make mistakes but still was done in 30 minutes.

 

Is there any way to screw up the air bag or set it off when trying to remove it while the battery is disconnected?

You can't set it off with the battery disconnected. You can screw it up though. Throw it at a wall, stab it with a knife, light it on fire, etc. You're perfectly fine with the battery unhooked, just take a little care with the air bag itself.

 

Like treimche said, the only way to set it off would be to apply power to it, so with battery disconnected it's not going to go off. You could screw it up if you wanted too, but the airbag is nicely packed in a little canister so you don't need to do anything to it except unbolt it and bolt it back in when you are done. Think of it like changing a light bulb - make sure power is off and don't drop it and it's no big deal

 

@tomgru posted an unfinished one installed on post #381. I only have blue on hand at the moment, but here it is. I actually like how they look, but I made them really easy to finish if that's the route you want to go.

Absolutely! I just stock unfinished ones, the finished ones are made to order. So unfinished ship alot faster too.

This looks nice. Sorry if I missed it but what's the difference between the Pro Grille smoothed and the regular Pro Grille (in terms of appearance)?

 

There regular pro grille has a texture pattern in the background to mask the lines from 3d printing and it gives the "grille" some depth. The smoothed one gets an acetone vapor bath that smooths the surface to dissolve the print lines, it's a cleaner look but it does lose a bit of definition.
This isn't a very good textured one, I dug it out of the garbage because I don't have any finished ones on hand.
