Kinda overpriced. I was going to list my 2006 Civic for that.

 

Offer 2k if it’s clean and has service records?

 

It's a bit of a dated car by today's standards. I'd look at a next gen Civic or even a Camry or Corolla.

Although if you're set on it $2k isn't bad if the service history is good.

 

Not really looking for anything specific, she has a 2015 corolla now and wants to get a sub 3k beater daily, so not set on it at all really. Been looking around Craigslist at tons of cheap cars

 

Honestly thinking hard about just getting her an old focus. My escort has been such an insanely good car I figure an old focus will be same same

 

Oh if it's a beater that thing will do fine. If I had to get a beater I'd probably get an Explorer or some other domestic SUV. Good for towing, and can throw stuff in the back.

 

There's a scene in Spiderman where he says "I need a strong focus" when jumping off a building, but he fails and lands... on a Ford Focus left undamaged. A strong Focus.

She drives over 60 miles a day so wanting something with better mileage then an SUV. Eventually once she has a reasonable commute she’ll be getting a 4Runner

I would say Tesla but we know how much those cost. It's a perfect commuter car. Hybrids of others cars like the Civic are another viable option.

Buying an old hybrid and having something go wrong scares me though. Just seems like extra shit to fail when you’re talking a 2-3 thousand dollar shit box. TDI Jetta would be kinda sweet

 

Yeah that's what killed my Civic. It's a 2006 Civic Hybrid with a dead hybrid NiMh battery pack.

They're relatively inexpensive to rebuild if you have the skill.

 

I don’t have the skill lol, and would rather just avoid the issue, basically a mix of good to decent mileage, with a balance of reliability and simple/cheap to work on. Will take a hit on mileage a little to get something I know will be easy to work on. I would be 100% towards a diesel VW because I think they are kinda in a league of their own mileage and longevity wise, but German cars can also be a pain electontics wise

 

For a beater anything would do really, just something that's easy to work on and cheap.
