Rust on Frame with A/C drain mod fix

Boeshield T-9 spray. It's similar to fluid film, it's purpose is the same which is to prevent rust and corrosion.

 

This mod was done within the first hour of me owning the truck....I opted for a clear lighter weight piece of tubing. Then I fluid filmed the shit out of the truck.

 

Nice easy and cheap mod

Out of curiosity, why is the dripping a problem versus any other water on the frame? Is it just because the water is always dripping to the same spot?

 

From another TW member who posted in this thread a while back...

"AC water is just condensation that has built up. Its actually probably cleaner than most folks tap water. That being said, cleaner water tends to have a higher PH lvl making it more acidic."

 

Just completed the mod after 10k miles. Didn’t notice any rust. Thanks op for the detailed instructions.

 

Is this kinda like one of those cheap and easy must do things?

It seems like surface rust is gonna happen but if you can avoid a lil here and there why not?

Opinions on if its worth the time and lil bit of money.

 

I just did it with 10k miles. 0 signs of rust, and I’m an AC whore. I have it on all year. Given how easy the mod is, and under $10 bucks...it’s worth the piece of mind.

 

Did Toyota do this on purpose for the AC fluid to drip on the frame? I rarely use my AC, only during the summer. Debating if I should do this mod, Although very helpful

 

Did this real quick this morning. Haven’t used the AC yet, but it’s starting to warm up here in Missouri, so I figured I’d get on this! Easy 15 minutes.

 

Anyone know if Toyota released a fix for this? With so many people having spots of rust, I would figure they come up w a fix for this at the Toyota dealership?

 

Do you think Toyota watch's this forum? They can learn plenty. Instead of sending us a survey to fill out asking our likes and dislikes.
Do the new trucks still have this problem?

 

It's water. There is no such thing as A/C fluid.

Yeah i had it backwards

 

Someone on the forum stated the they saw Toyota dealership selling a kit to do this and were charging an arm and a leg for it. Not sure if it was just a local dealership, regional or national thing. Toyota Escondido parts dept. didn't have anything nor knew what I was talking about.

Doubtful they watch it from a corporate standpoint. More than likely, they have influential employees that are forum members just like anyone else and are here for the same reasons as us. Trail/mod info and shenanigans. The 2019's are still built this way when I peeked at one.
