Was just wondering with all the questions about fuel economy after lift kitkand tires has anybody traded from the Tacoma to a ZR2 or vice versa. Just wondering how the fuel economy was after since the ZR2 is already lifted.

It's all about the weight and drag. Every vehicle that weighs around the same and has the same mods and the same drag is going to get the same mpg.

Asking g because I love the Tacoma as I have always had one but the ZR2 looks good and I will be ready to trade in the 2012 Tacoma soon and not sure which I will be buying.

That's the reason I may be staying with Tacoma do to reliability and low cost of ownership.

This is an anectdotal comparison... but my neighbor with an F-150 gets better all around mpg in his F150 than I did with my 3rd gen taco. We were both surprised. How you use a vehicle is critical.

Why were we surprised? Because he has a "full sized" truck and I had a small Tacoma that was praised for its increased mpg over previous gens. You really need to think hard about how you are going to use your vehicle before making "mental" comparisons.

I average 18-19 MPG in daily commute, my F-250 got at best 11 MPG. The best part the Taco fits in my Garage at night,

Not to debate all the various features, pros, and cons of a Tacoma vs ZR2, but if reliability is important to you I would NOT buy the ZR2. For all of the bitching that goes on here at TW, funny thing is no one bitches that their Tacoma left them high and dry dead along side the road.

Zr2 is the worst out of the bunch.

The other item with the ZR2 is they only have direct injection so come 30,000 look for expensive service. Toyota had the sense of the dual port injection for the 3.5.

What kind of work do you do? Does the 40k miles you drive require a truck? If not, I'd get a 2nd car to do that driving with and save the truck.

That's a gross oversimplification. Were he to get a ZR2 with the diesel engine the highway gas milage could be ton (~50%) better.

Actually no as you can't achieve any kind of gas mileage with a diesel. :D

Ha! ~30mpg on the highway instead of ~20mpg would be pretty sweet. As a former owner of a VW Sportwagon TDI I know how how well a diesel performs in comparison to the exact same size gasoline engine in the same car. Fun differences! Ahh well, we'll have electrified Taco trucks soon as we've missed the diesel window in the US.

Diesels don't make that big of a difference in milage. The diesel zr2 gets 18/22. The diesel will lose less mpg when loaded down though. Truck will be much slower too

If mpg are really a factor, don't buy a pickup truck.

No issues with the current Tacoma. 2012 single cab 2.7L with 164k runs great

The trick is to drive like a grandpa. My buddy has a 17 or 18 Silberado V8 and he averaged 29mpg on a trip to vegas from the central valley of california8996.jpg
