Plus, understand that he had a few screws loose going into the 3rd Gen section, you know, from driving Fiats for so long :stirthepot:

If that happened to him for driving the Fiats, how bad is the outlook for the ford drivers? :ohsnap:

I don't ping on Top Tier 87 in winter blend. I ping on Top Tier 87 summer blend. 87 to 93 is $0.50/gallon more at the local Mobil. I put 15 gallons in this afternoon, so I paid $7.50 more than I would have.

My 2G pinged on 87 as well.

That's interesting because winter gas has a lower vapor pressure than summer blend...so your gas should volatilize at a lower pressure and be more likely to knock with winter gas than summer gas...even with the same octane...It's really strange you would only knock with summer...I would try 3 gallons of 93 and the rest 87 until you don't knock...I also wonder if your ECU could be reset to fix your timing/compression on summer blend

Summer blend gas is back! I'm back to 15 MPG with the USS Super Duty (which honestly isn't bad for that truck commuting to and from Boston).

Since starting the new yob about 1.5 years ago I sometimes contemplate a commuter car/ giving up the FJ for something more fuel efficient. Filling up every few days gets pretty lame as the ~100 mile/ day commute crushes gas in the FJ. But then I think that the FJ literally costs me nothing besides gas/ maintenance and it's hard to justify replacing that/ supplimenting with a second fuel efficient vehicle. On the other hand over also been semi-seriously contemplating selling the FJ for a 100 series LC/ LX 570

Considered but the road conditions, douchebag drivers not paying attention, and limited comfortable riding season temps rule it out for me.

Plus I pick my kids up every day. And this not being the 3rd world I couldn't pile them all onto a bike legally

Main reasons why I took my bike out twice all last year and will most likely sell it this Spring.

    Minus the kids part.

Funny, I pulled the boat out from the back 40 a few weeks ago and as per standard dewinterization I drain the stabilized tank I filled at the end of last summer and put it in my truck. I was like- "Wow! how did I do a full days commute on less than an 1/8th of a tank?" Then I remembered, the boat has summer gas. It's bad that the winter gas is SOOOOO much of a difference. In my GMC it seems to be like 4 or 5 MPG which seems excessive. I don't think it was that much with the Taco.

Oh... I think we went to winter blend gas for a few weeks there maybe? Probably. Not sure, but we have definitely been back on summer gas for a while.

No, I quoted the wrong post. I was trying to get things wrapped up at work before the end of the day so I quoted and logged off.

For your problem, that sort of $$ seems a little steep, but it's probably mostly labor costs. I wouldn't be surprised if it's one that you can't get at from the underside and they have to go in through the center console to replace it.
