    What?
There is a lot if things tied to all the universities. All the merchandise they sell helps all the merchants in the state generate tax dollars for the state. Those merchants build more businesses from the tax dollars generating more money the merchants that live in the state spend that money generated and the state and the universities pay taxes. All the attention they get brings in even more fans that buy merchandise and generate taxes. There's an endless list of the way that generates money for the state. Just think about all the beer and buffalo wings that sell while people watch the games...

yes, you are correct, but that isn't all because of Alabama football. nor does it matter if it is or isn't Alabama football.

imagine Alabama football never existed, or a division 1 college team in this state at all....then what? the state collapses into turmoil? we all die? no. folks find something else to cheer for, another sport, another out of state team, anything. with Alabama consistently being at the top and all of the success...don't you think Alabama would be higher up on some lists as far as state rankings go, if they actually made much of an impact on the state as you're implying? I sure do, but they don't make that much of an impact. we are most often only ranked 49th out of 50 states (thanks Mississippi) on a lot of lists...seems like your Alabama football isn't helping get us up higher lol

I also won't miss something on Saturday just to watch the game. Yeah, I'll hang out with all my friends and watch all the games and stuff, but if there is something I need to get done, or something really fun going on, or somebody needs me...I'm not choosing watching a game over that stuff.

Now you're just grasping at straws.
You're saying what if football didn't exist in Alabama but it does and it generates money and a lot of it for the state. They are a lot of mom and pop shops that depend on Alabama football not just the University of Alabama all Alabama football teams Roll Blazing Eagle. I know two different people that own screen print businesses in Cullman County that the majority of their business is printing University t-shirts. They even print LSU shirts but nowhere near as many. If I helped an out-of-state school like LSU by buying all their merchandise that for sure would not help the state I live in as much. As far as state rankings I don't think you can lay all of that on college football.

I don't think I'm grasping at straws at all, and I'm not saying you lay state rankings on college football whatsoever...I'm literally saying the opposite. That they don't help the rankings at all.

I also believe, as I said, that those mom and pop shops would still be able to succeed because they'd simply make product for another team. If football didn't exist in Alabama...then folks would be fans of teams outside of the state and buy that product. You don't have to live in the state to make product for that team. Exactly as you just said those folks make LSU shirts. They'd still exist, they'd still survive, and they'd still benefit the state. It's not Alabama football that's causing that. It's literally any team. Humans need something to cheer for, to want and hope to succeed. Sadly...that's usually sports...when that energy could be used so much better in other areas...

How many Alabama fans do you think they are in other states what about that money. You're basing your thoughts on what is ifs not what is.

Money made in the other states does not benefit Alabama the state. If it is sold in another state, at most it benefits the program if they are actually paying for the trademark logo, which most do not. I can go screen print whatever team I wanted to on a tshirt right now and not give any money to that program which I copied.

I'm just telling you that it's not "ALABAMA FOOTBALL" that brings in the money in sales, and improves the state in any way. It's the human desire for something successful to cheer for. Alabama Football can be replaced, with something in-state or out of state, and you wouldn't notice the quality of your state change. Ehh...actually it'd be a happier place since Bama fans wouldn't exist :rofl:jk jk

but really....think about the successful states that don't have big college programs..they're doing equally or BETTER than the state of Alabama is....with lesser or nonexistent programs!

Those two screen printing shops I just told you about in Cullman County ship shirts all over the country. Would they be in Business Without Alabama football probably not. It's hard to sell LSU shirt in Alabama even though they do sell a few. If they move their business to Louisiana they would have a lot better chance of selling LSU merchandise. Because the University of Alabama is so successful they are known all over the world a lot better than other teams. Because of that they are Alabama fans everywhere that by licensed merchandise that vendors from the state of Alabama sales to them. And how much money do you think Buffalo Wild Wings gets from college football games by selling beer in Buffalo Wings. Like you said if it wasn't for college people would be pulling for something else but we're not talking about something else we're talking about what exists now and what exists now generates money to help improve the state I live in. So be it Alabama Auburn UAB whoever those are my teams. ROLL BLAZER EAGLES
