This is crazy. I'm needing one exactly like this too. I considered the pop n lock, but after hearing my buddies, I might not be so cool about the loud azz actuator.

Actually you already have a spare three to be exact. The key in the fob works on my 2019 tailgate.

Just installed the pop n lock a couple weeks ago. True, it sounds like a minor helicopter crash every time I lock and unlock, but it's sure convenient handling all my tailgate business with the key fob or driver's door handle. Also, you can't hear the pop and lock when you're inside the cab. I bought mine for around $80 - for the price and convenience, it was a no-brainer over using the factory master key.

Is there any difference between using a square key edge vs the traditional pointed type?

Yep, I thought it was odd they give you 2 FOBs with integral key as well as a stand-alone key, and one of the first things I tried was whether all 3 lock the tailgate, or whether the stand-alone key was for something else. Apparently not and it's just a 3rd copy.
Now if only these keys fit the invisible lock on the gas filler door...

In the my16s the tailgate used a separate standalone key, different than the one in the FOB. They fixed it for 2017 but still include that third key.

What he said, 2016 doesn’t work. I bought the pop n lock off the forum. $65 shipped with plug n play kit.

Ah, OK, thanks for that info.
Did Tacomas ever have a locking gas filler door, and it just fell victim to the bean counters' cost cutting?
At least they haven't gone to the capless filler combined with no lock.

1995-2004 had a lock on the fuel door. It was gone for 2005-onward.

    Ha ! Ain't that the truth ?
Really, it should be cable locked from inside the cab like every other frickin' motor vehicle out there....

Mine must be a fluke b/c my tailgate is the same as my ignition, Maybe its b/c I don't have push start?

I installed the Pop and Lock its not really that loud and works great. If you tie it into the passenger side it does not activate as much.

You mean the upper model Tacoma's are laser cut. My '19 SR Tacoma has 2 regular keys.
