Good looking truck. I'd say keep it, I'm assuming by now it's paid off... So Keep it until it literally can't go anymore. Who knows, maybe you'll hit 1,000,000 and Toyota will buy it back from you. That would be an honor.

Or don’t. I love driving my truck and won’t be tuning it. Maybe mine is the Unicorn??.....doubtful. This is how the hundreds of thousands of 3G Tacoma owners out there mostly feel, barring a couple hundred on this site. If the truck was undrivable without a OVtune, it wouldn’t be selling more and more all the time. There isn’t that many idiots born every minute.

Suit yourself, but it does drive better, gets better mpgs, HP, and more power (torque) without that crappy stock power and tune that Toyota seriously F’d up. It’s only the #1 complaint about this truck from just about anybody and that includes Car and Driver.
I’m a Tacoma guy for life regardless.

Yeah......they fucked up so badly that they are selling 100’s of thousands of them to total idiots, and Toyota still can’t figure it out, but OV Tune can!! It’s a miracle of epic proportion.

As said, I like the way my truck drives, and I am glad the few hundred that don’t can seek out a tune.

Most people don’t know what they are missing and settle for the road of mediocrity...but I digress

OVtune has made a killer product that actually DOES make these trucks better. If you aren’t into it so be it.

OVTune is that good that’s Toyota has reached out to him to help with tuning. He must be doing something right given he is the ONLY person so far to improve the truck so well that Toyota is utilizing his skills

I am sure it’s the answer for some to a for a question I don’t have. However, I do follow the OV Tune thread and the nature of that thread reveals the personality type of the person who seek out the tune. It’s an endless stream of “I’m going back to 1.04” / “have you tried 87 tune”. / “strange idle on 1.03” / cant wait for 1.06.....that’ll be perfect” / on so on. The perfect tune never arrives.

In short, tuning is a compulsion I don’t share with you, that seems to occupy (and torture) the tuning crowd. They are never happy, which is why they went tuning in the first place. I am happy for OVTune that they found a good market, using their smarts, to service these troubled people and their hobby. It seems to be a solid bunch of customers, and serving them is and impressive thing to do.

I can agree with the “never happy” crowd is an endless vortex

Yea I always wondered how someone could reflash mass tune an engine better then the engineers that built it.
Granted he’s not held in check with smog police and the like but still seems off.

Does make little sense with a 93 only tune seeing little more juice and taco does seem to run a little rich.

He absolutely did. My early production 3rd gen M/T had some serious issues that were all taken care of by tuning. Granted, about 2 1/2 years into the 3rd gen's production run, Toyota's TSB update went a long way to solve them as well (good fucking luck getting a dealer to do it though). Of course you will make up your own mind, but I'm not bench racing.

I didn't know that happened, he must be doing a very good job then. I haven't been paying attention to that thread. I'm more curious if it would be able to run better on regular 87 octane. The idea of having to put in anything higher than that in a pickup makes me cringe.

He is currently working on a tune that will self adjust to power gains based on octane used. This way you only have to stick to one tune. Based on your needs you can choose the octane desired.

It’s difficult to get that much more out of 87 because the 3.5 Lexus engine actually runs better on higher octane

    Wow, seriously
The 3rd gen trucks are faster... Look it up on 0-60 times website... And that's before the OV tune!! With the 87 octane tune they are faster, burn cleaner and get better mileage... 2nd gen all day?? Maybe yesterday lol.

Yes, but in the cars, Toyota tunes it via the ECU to produce 296 hp, or 311 hp.

Yeah buddy.... The 2nd gen owners act like the 4.0 is some kind of mysterious torque monster.... Give me a break, they need to drive a Cummins, the 3.5 & 4.0 are both the same in lbs/ft and they aren't exactly torque monsters.
