I agree. It would be nice if I could take a shit 5 feet away from where a bear just took a shit and not have eco snowflakes freak about about where I just took my shit. Go yell at the bear. He did it too. It’s not just me.

I was referring to Three Mile Island. All the old nuke plants have me concerned. We have a few here in Michigan ,2 are within 40 miles from my home, and I’m down wind.

But this isn’t one of those instances. The scientific findings aren’t “preliminary” or “emerging” regarding emissions, greenhouse gasses, air quality, respiratory issues, climate forcings, etc.

I do think it’s a tossup between the Tacoma and the Ridgeline if those are the only two options being considered, and it also depends on whether the OP drives more in the city or on the highway. The best bet would be a hybrid or full electric truck, but viable and affordable options are not available yet.

It’s not a lie. You make a good point that the consumer end-product may get more media attention (or we feel like we hear about it more) than the larger global supply chain and consumer-culture footprint, but there is plenty of solid data that takes into account the environmental production costs of vehicles versus the emissions that come out of the tailpipe. As I might have mentioned in other threads, the Union of Concerned Scientists, for one, has detailed and balanced multi-year studies they use to produce 50+ page reports that weigh the regional and supply-chain impacts compared to the emissions of ICE vehicles vs. hybrids or electrics; in other words, there is an impact when you run an F350 year-round, and it is significant, and it’s more than that of the vehicle’s production, and it’s also different depending on where you live. Check out those reports.

So many reason why that isn’t friendly.

    1) non consensual animal slavery

    2) bovine methane farts

    3) improper poop placement

Not to sound high and mighty, but I’ve been riding a bike to work for years. People laugh at me like it’s some impossible task reserved for the poor or the environmental nut jobs but it’s really not that big of a deal. Once you get in shape, even a 12 mile commute is pretty easy. Saves money, gets you in shape and it keeps money from the unfavorable people who own a majority of the oil in the world.

And you actually get where you are going in a reasonable time I bet. 2 hours to go 9 miles by car.

I don’t know about where you live, but I would never attempt that for my drive to work. Especially in the dark. All it takes is one dumbass not paying attention

Stationed in CA right now but have done it in Idaho and Japan as well. It’s not for everyone and I am not one of those dudes who thinks that everyone should be forced to do it but it is an option for a lot of people

@jwctaco I used to work in the Nuclear Industry, the US actually has a pretty good handle on it. INPO (Institute of Nuclear Power Operations) keeps the US fleet ahead of the NRC and the rules here are pretty intensive. After TMI, the whole industry was rocked and stuff really changed to ensure you're going to be okay. We have over ~100 Nukes operating in the US and after TMI, the industry pretty much thought that they would all be shuttered. That's a huge financial risk.... It was bad enough that several plants had construction stopped after over 75% completion. That's how bad it was. All that investment, and they just walked away.

Fukushima was quite a different animal. I don't know the regulations in Japan, but I have a good grasp on what happened. They didn't really have the emergency diesel generators hardened for the disaster. They had a Tsunami that was greater than anticipated, but even then, I saw the video of the fuel tanks getting washed away and thought WTF?!?!?!?!

Even though I work in a different Industry, I do think Nuke Power is the way to go. So much power, so little foot print, so little waste for what you get. I know lots of people talk renewables, and I think they have their place, but when I drive out west and see a windfarm with hundreds of windmills taking up so much space, so much maintenance, and less than half were turning...... I don't think it'll supply the power we need for the economy.
