What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You get that lift installed? Dont remember if you posted pics or not.

 

Don’t give me too much shit but.....no. Too much rain and cold weather to mess with it. My dad and I both took off the week of April 15th and the goal is to get it on then. Took the whole week just in case we screw something up doing it. May even finally start a build thread....

 

I dont blame you. The weather here has been way to inconsistent to do a project like that, especially if its your first time.

Edit: start spraying bolts with pb blaster now.

 

Got a big ol’ can of it. Luckily the truck is pretty rust free.

 

My VA born truck put up a fight. Had to buy a sawzall to do the leafs.

 

I don't know why I didn't think of using the tailgate as a welding table when I was welding up the front bumper. SO much easier to do and on the body than sitting/kneeling on the floor.

Got the center section all finish welded and started on some grinding and then called it a day. Bolted it up to the truck since I probably won't be able to work on it tomorrow.

You just need a 10mm bolt about 20mm long. Lowes probably has one.

 

For some it seems a right of passage to be sarcastic when questions are asked. I for one have received grief for the same thing.
And in your defense, the search on this site is horrible. I have rarely been able to find what I am looking for.
So I ask the question and hope someone shows pitty on me...

 

So I went to re torque my LBJs and ran into and issue. One bolt just spinned. Pulled it out and it was stripped. I have no idea how this happened. I hand started every bolt. And torqued each on to I think 60 ft lbs. do I need to replace the spindle now?

 

You all in the east have had some pretty funky weather. Definitely inconsistent.

 

You could HeliCoil it. But you’ll need to remove the spindle to drill it straight. So it a cheaper but more time consuming fix. A HeliCoil will be stronger as well.

 

ouch dude - wtf? I personally would just replace the whole spindle. Definitely use new bolts when replacing the LBJs (everytime) if you didn't last time around. LBJs scare me. If I suspect anything wrong, my OCD kicks in and it has to be taken care of...

 

Try chasing the threads first along with a new bolt, if that doesn't work, re tap in the next metric size up. Cast steel tends to strip easily, see it happen all the time at work.

 

Yes theres tons of room no issues at all with running 2.5x12in shocks. Just pull the trigger and do it I only drove it a couple blocks today but love that my rear is closer to the same width as the front with long travel. Only thing is the rear end sits higher. Everyone says you cant run 15s with a tundra axle but there it is, I have 32x11.5x15

Once I took this picture I thought fuck I hope my truck doesn't flip as I had little drivers side rear tire touching the ground

 

What tool is best to use on a stake nut. This guy stopped me cold. The torque wrench could not overcome the stake.

 

Air impact removed this nut on my brothers truck. Took it off no problem.

 

Thanks. I said torque but I meant impact wrench. The impact wrench could not overcome the stake.

 

I used new oem bolts when I did the ball joints.
