    Update again
Finally got somewhere with Servco Hawaii. They opened a case and are looking into it. Doesn’t mean much at the moment but I have documented the last 2 resets I had. Both happened while driving and watching the mpg suddenly go to zero and then climb back up as I roll along.

Update...I just went to dealer and said that the trip meter 1 & 2 are resetting themselves. Low and behold, they looked in their Puter and said..... "we'll order the parts needed and call you, likely tomorrow or Wed." Said It should take about 1/2 hour or so.

Whoopee..... I saw them print a TSB, but did not see it. Must be a CDN one out now.:canada:

So my quandary is that my Taco has 32,000 mi on it and the reset happened 11 times rather evenly spaced over it's 2-1/2 year life. The closest dealership is about 90 mi away. It sounds like folks have run the gammit from an easy switchover of the new cluster to downright nastiness. Given from what folks have also said the switchover will take 2 trips to the dealership (dropoff and pickup) and the dealership might kidnap my truck for a couple of weeks while the new cluster is being set to the mileage and then sent to said dealership. So far the resets have only included the 2 trip odometers and tank MPG. Not a real heartache in my book. But I guess I need to make a decision soon as to whether or not file for the TSB. I plan on keeping the truck for a long time (200K+ miles) so the resale hit for not doing the TSB isn't really a factor. Has anyone heard if the cluster snafu becomes worse (more frequent) over time or if additional problems arise?
    Thanks

Try calling the dealer ahead of time and see if they will accept your statement that the meters are resetting, etc. If they are REAL nice they might even accept your word on the existing Mileage, but I doubt it....

Sound like a trip to get part ordered and then back for the 1/2 hr. fix.

My dealer took mileage and said we'll call you when part is in..... I guess they will guess what the mileage is then...

Good luck.....Get her done now. Who knows what further things might go bad if you go over warranty.

Thanks Grumpy, Yeah I'd hate to get passed 36K mi and have the cluster totally fail. My guess it's not a cheap part to replace out-of-pocket.

Got the replacement all set up through Toyota Corporate and my nearest (92mi) dealership. Adding 400 mi to my current mileage for setting the new module and then a one-stop replacement. Very easy so far....

Update: Took the truck in for the switchout and about 40 minutes later drove out with a new instrument cluster. Easy Peasy. Sorry to hear of other folks trials getting the TSB done. Maybe it's getting easier since the TSB has been out for a year or so.

Instant solution for you guys that have scratched your plastic...hehe:rofl::rofl:

They applied the mileage that I had on it when I took it in 10 days ago....they ordered it with that mileage...… I gained about 400 KMS to my warranty..!!:thumbsup:

My truck was built June 21 this year in Tijuana. I've had it for just over two weeks now and about 300 miles and, yes, I've been noticing this for the last week or so. At first you sort of shake your head think, "did I reset that?" But no. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow.

    Update:
So dealer had my truck all week last week. The service manager looked at it. Okay I gave them the tsb so no you can’t duplicate it. What are you trying to look for?

They fly a higher level tech in from Honolulu. He looks at it. Can’t duplicate... okay. They call me up and ask so what meter is resetting? You know some of them change when your driving right. Um yeah I am not a dumbass. I know which ones change when you fill the tank and the current gpm etc.

Can you come in and show us which meter is resetting? Really wtf do you guys do. What where you checking when you had my truck for the week if you have to ask me what meters are resetting?

Okay. I go in and show them exactly what is resetting. Oh yeah that’s not supposed to happen. No shit I think that’s why I gave you the tsb for this exact issue.

We will be forwarding your info to continental USA for review and where to go from here for repair.

Great can I have my truck back since you wasted a week.

Long rant. But seriously lost my patience on this one.

I am just seeing this thread and wanted to add my experience. I started to notice regular trip meter resets this winter after having my 16 off-road for about a year and a half. I found this TSB, but I was also experiencing some issues with my remote start not successfully starting the truck - especially when cold. Eventually I also noticed some hesitation (but never a dead battery) when I pushed to start so I took the truck in for a battery test as there have been a number of reports of battery problems. The battery failed the test and the dealer replaced it under warranty.

I have not had any trip meter resets in about 6 months since the battery replacement. I didn't read every post in this thread, but I didn't see anyone else mention this as a potential fix for this issue. I'm sure the cluster replacement may be needed in most cases where folks are seeing this symptom, but checking the battery is an easy first step.

I did not notice any battery issues...

I figured replacing it under warranty was the best way to go, especially cuz my 36 months are up in 2....!!

    New unit works well..!!

Has anyone had this issue after getting a new cluster installed? I got a new one in May and just now it is starting to reset again. I have less than 2 months on my warranty . .

Guess what,,!!!! I had the cluster "F" exchanged just before warranty ended.... It's doing it again...

Do you think Toyota will replace it again..?? (out of warranty)

It should have a 1 yr. warranty on all Toyota installed parts..?????

My 2016 Off Road started having this problem in November. Since then it has happened about nine times. I am still under warranty and took in in to the dealer. They took my word for the problem, said they would have-to keep my truck and explained the whole thing about keeping the milage true. They said it would take about 4 or 5 days to get the part and install it. I was given a brand new 2019 Tacoma SR5 to drive.
16 days later I'm still driving the loaner. Apparently the new combo meter is on backorder. The service manage opined Toyota must be having some significant problems of the sort we are experiencing to cause the part shortage. At least my dealership is attentive and while I wait I'm putting miles on their new truck.

I have not made it through the thread yet as I'm at work but this has happened to me 3 times now. Owned the truck since January, currently ~ 18.5K mi.
I will follow up with an edit with the info that you asked for.

So my build was 10/15 in Baja Mexico.

Since I drive right past a dealer on the way home I stopped in, told them about the issue.
Girl looks up my Vin and says there's no TSB out for my truck. So I whip out the TSB# right quick and show them, girl still says no TSB for this truck.
Guy sitting next to her, behind the counter, says "2016 Tacoma? Yeah mine does that too.
So the girl called the lead mech in and he's never heard of the issue but takes the # and looks it up. Well sure enough it does exist.

But he tells me that it could be one of 7 clusters and no way to know which.
Talk to the service manager and he looks at what the backorder is, undeterminable!
    No way to know!

So now we have a bigger problem, they want the truck and will need to keep it for an undetermined amount of time but since it's a TSB and not a recall they will charge me fir any rental.
    And they only rent cars!

I'm trying to be patient here and I'm biting my tongue not telling them what's in my mind, probably for the best...

The service guy days that they will discuss with the Toyota Rep and see but had no confidence of anything different.

    Wanting to say:
Your telling me that your going to charge me for a rental on a >$30k Toyota "Certified" vehicle with 19k miles that I've only had for 3 months? With that stupid expensive as he77 extended warranty that I bought that said BUMPER TO BUMPER in our sales discussion, I'm literally going to blow a gasket!

    Any suggestions folks?

When I took mine they said Toyota wants to keep the truck because they have to order a unit with the exact mileage on it. They can't let me add mileage to it.

The service Mgr. said..."what idiots, do they realize you have to rent a vehicle for an unknown amount of time."

He took the mileage off mine and ordered a new one. I'll call ya when it's in. It turned out to be a few weeks and I had about 800kms on it by then.

No worry they replaced it and way I went. I gained the 450km.

Good service with some "uncommon sense"...…..:canada:
