I had taken off my ICU and throttle body on my 3.4L and cleaned out all of the carbon hoping that it would help with the misfire that I have when the car is idling when it is cold. I noticed that in the intake manifold, it was soaked with coolant. I believe that this may be the reason as to why it misfires, but I have no idea as to how the coolant is getting in there? My coolant runs out very fast and I am constantly having to re-fill it. I'd rather try and fix it myself before I have to take it to the dealership!!! Any help would be great that you!

There's a water bypass pipe under there. It looks like this, below. The sealant under the front of it wears out.

Check your oil cap and let me know if it’s got milky white shit under the cap, if so it’s getting in the crank case and it’s usually the intake manifold gaskets.

You’re in good shape then just need to find your leak.

yeah i have no idea where it could be though... the coolant in the intake is causing it to misfire pretty badly when it is cold though

Have you replaced the intake manifold gaskets that helped me tremendously.

I haven't... do you think that would stop it from leaking?

Good info here, OP. My coolant bypass pipe was leaking at 150k easy miles and is a pretty common thing. A re-seal and you'll be good as new.

Well they do leak badly at certain miles, changing them usually fixes those leaks and restores lost hp. You’ll be amazed.

even though there is no evident leaking from the outside, you think it would still be worth it?

It's been a while for me, but pretty sure you clean up the pipe interface and re-FIPG it.

Yep, I reckon the Toyota product would be best to re-seal that pipe, although I think I used a grey sealant from Subaru (blasphemy!)

Hahaha! This topic can get as heated as any, but Permatex and others make some good gasket makers. I've just used Toyota FIPG a lot of different times with good results, so I always have a tube or two on hand.
