What are you saying you did?I also had the REM polishing but just to be safe on my journey home about every 75 miles we stopped for about 20 minutes and gave it a break. Are you saying you ran yours in 4x4 on the highway for break in on the front?I'm planning to change my rear diff oil tomorrow, would you go ahead and do the front oil or wait until I have a decent amount of 4x4 miles on them first?I have yet to run mine in 4x4 since install but actually plan to for a few miles tomorrow.I will obviously be no where near 500 miles. I have to go get a couple things from the auto parts store so I'll probably run it in 4 high for a couple miles to and from on the highway and I'm loading the rack and rtt which is on the lower part of the yard so I'll climb out in 4 low then to test function.I can easily throw it in 4x4 every so often through out the week just to cycle the gears and wait to change the front oil in a couple of months if that makes more sense. Just looking for good suggestions and advice. Thanks

Probably because it's a gallon container... wonder why would someone go to such a heavy oil though compared to 80-90? I'd imagine heavier oil will impact the mpg a bit as well. Trying to see your reasons behind the 85-140 choice

In 100% honesty my reasoning is because it was recommended to me to use it and only it by many professionals of which work with gears often, including Ecgs which I highly respect in regards to gear work and knowledge . Their reasons when I asked bc I was also confused was that it is the best to stick to the gears and not break down prematurely.I can not confirm if it will or will not have any impact on one's mpg however. I am no professional, so when I'm doing anything I consult with professionals , and always more than one to see if I get mixed views. On this topic, I did not they each told me the same exact thing. Run nothing but Lucas 85 /140 non synthetic for your gears.

that's ballsy, that red one looks even more impressive since it's running stock bumper and looks like smaller lift. in either way some of those obstacles are definitely not a common Tacoma territory props

:rofl:yeah the red one is a salvage title with a tweaked up frame my buddy got for cheap. Doesn't give a crap about it and beats it to shit.

Cliffhanger is hard, but doable. Double locked on 35s will get you through with some rock stacking on one or two of the ledges.

If you have REM polishing then you are likely good to go. I wouldn't change the front diff oil until you have racked up quite a bit of miles on it.

Heavier oil protects the gears better, lasts longer and has higher tolerance to load, heat etc.

Those are amazing pictures. Love the second one.

We just got back from Moab. Didn't run cliffhanger but ran, Poison Spider, Gold Bar Rim, Golden Spike, Steelbender and Top of the World.

Thanks I appreciate it , that makes sense and probably why he said only do the rear.I will be playing with the 4x4 here and there to get it broke in correctly. I'm just excited to get more miles on the whole set so I can get into it and see how it pulls. Ive been driving like a blind granny for 500 miles.I do have a question for you guys that have had them for a bit. When I'm coming down a hill and I am required to brake too slow even just a bit like say going 45 and slowing down to 30 for a corner it gear jumps down a couple really quick causing the rpms too sky rocket and it pull to a slower speed. This doesn't happen every time just occasionally and I'm sure it's only the truck trying to match the current gear with the speed but its annoying especially seeing I have a louder exhaust because this thing screams when it does it. Also how does the sport shift mode do for you guys?I used to live in sport shift bc I could manipulate much beet diving patterns and get at least 2 mpg better doing so .I have only drove in standard Drive drive getting them installed but really eager to push it a bit and see what happens.

I only use S mode while offroad. Haven’t found a need for it under normal driving but I’m also lazy.

Yeah just picked that up today. I hear Lucas is overrated and you pay for the name not quality

I’ve been running Lucas for 20 years. I was sold on it after seeing a dramatic improvement in 4 old 8 tire massey fergusons. The contractor went from exploding a rear end or transmission or transfer case every month in one of them to not having a breakdown in one of them for a 18 months. All he did was add 20 to 50% Lucas in everything. It was nice having 55 gallon drums of around too.

Maybe you got the good stuff. My neighbor is s mechanic and he said it really isn’t worth the extra money in fact they had stopped using Lucas because of issues they’ve ran into with wear and breakdown. I’m sure there are as many opinions on this as there are people. I’m planing changing the dif oil every 20k or so thus don’t really worry about the brand hype. Let’s face it most people don’t ever change dif oil outhere

600 miles on two tanks of gas avaraged me about 15 mpg :/:facepalm:changing the oil now. Not too much on the magnet lower bolt and oil is just a tad milky. My advice is forget the pump stuff it’s useless / super slow flow. :smack:So I’m just posting this while it’s slowly transfers the oil. 629FED89-3751-47BE-9D8A-47591EDCCADB.jpgDBBA3BF7-DA42-4745-9D0D-62CBE4039532.jpg1E49578C-E58A-47FE-9F90-5B9458B93502.jpg4FE90791-07CE-4261-9662-E856F73A4098.jpg

Nice. The rear diff is pretty easy with the smaller 1 qt bottles. I always keep one around for when I buy the gallon jugs. The front diff sucks. Just warning you now.

Currently have 32s on my AT and been looking at doing some gears and just don't see the downside in going with 5.29s, at least out of all the posts I have read; I have seen people say they wish they went to 5.29s vs going with 4.88s but haven't seen the opposite. Anyone regret 5.29s?
