Wait until dark then shine a bright light on it and trace the shadow. Not perfect but if you play with the light position and measure for accuracy between the post dimensions and the shadow dimensions it should work.

Satoshi, debadged, rear view mirror bracket, tail gate hose clamps, trimmed mud flaps.

Good idea. Keep the light as far away as possible to minimize the difference between post and shadow.

That is a good idea. I actually made a make-shift gauge. Got the idea on YouTube. I sacrificed one of my wife’s sushi mats for the bamboo sticks and threaded them through a piece of cardboard, then CA glued two strips of doorskin on it. Pretty crude but it’ll get me started.

Of course I asked my wife if I could butcher her sushi mat, in writing

Well, I’m not sure. I don’t have a lathe, but it may work out to be more cost-effective to buy one used than to have matching posts custom made. I also might do it with hand tools for a challenge.

SF Bay, Ca. Beautiful state, it’s just that it’s full of Californians.

Oh. Sorry. I live in an area that has a bunch (and I mean a BUNCH) of artisanal woodworkers. You can't walk 100 yards without tripping over someone that does wood turning.

Hung an axe head today for the first time. Boght the handle form House Handles but it took some shaping to the eye to get a good fit. Good chisel practice. Gonna oil up the handle and put an edge on the axe. Last picture is what it started as.

Sorry for the crooked pic. But I made about 20 Crosses for the local cemetery's for Memorial day. Then need painted which we will do at our next Legion meeting. I made about a dozen last year and they all were used and we needed more.

Alright. Well, as much as I’d like to make these with hand tools, I just don’t have that kind of time. Any recs on a budget 40” lathe? Considering something like HF’s model but want some other opinions.

How much would I have to spend on some decent knives for this profile?

Also, I’m only making ~40” posts for the banister ends, not trying to duplicate this entire 12’ column.

I’ve started a live edge coffee table. Put tinted epoxy in and flattened it so far. Going to let it sit a month then get back to it. Mineral spirts test looks promising.

To stabilize it’s humidity content I’d imagine

Let the humidity stablilize. Plus I work overseas 28/28 so I can’t touch it anyway. I epoxied most of the cracks and squared it up so hopefully it’ll stabilize and I’ll finish it then.

    Exactly.

What color of epoxy did you use?
