Could anyone recommend the best Dremel to use to cut the plastic on the front bumper area for the installation of a SSO bumper? Or is there a better tool to use? Thanks!

I haven't installed one but I would think a 4in cutoff wheel would leave a straighter line on the main parts? If you get a dremel get the larger 1.5in wheel and the one that's variable speed, not just 2 speed. You will have better control. The cut is covered so it doesn't have to be perfect.

Thanks! It does get covered up, but I am still a little apprehensive about cutting on a brand new truck!

I would use the least aggressive tool possible to minimize any drifting. drill points around the perimeter to define the area of carnage. score all, 32 tooth hacksaw blade, sharp utility knife blade in a specific pattern. maybe clean up with a drum sander bit in the Dremel after the hole is cut out.

not sure high rpms & low torque is what you're looking for.

I am looking at the Dremel 4000 at the moment. It is variable speed and comes with a reinforced cut off wheel.

Don't make the same mistake I did and buy the Harbor Freight one. That thing was useless. Not enough power to get through the plastic bumper. I ended up southern engineering the cutting blade from it to use in my drill. That did the trick.

On top of all of this great info. Tape off the peremeter of your cuts to protect the paint! Acid free masking tape is best.

wear glasses! some guys saturate the wheel with superglue and let it dry to help with the shatter effect.

Really? I have owned the red Chicago electric from harbor freight for years... cut through metal...plastic whatever I ask it to...
I do use the real dremel wheels and bits for it (from Lowe's or hd) But it's been great. Variable speed electric model....

I do have both, but I worry about the precision of the cut.

the bumper covers most of what you cut. If you do mess up you can always just use some edge trim.

Heck I did this with those tools over a year ago and haven't covered it up yet

Always there will be variety tools, but it will come to the point of your skill. Use whatever tool you have, it's experience after all, save your money to buy more armor instead of buying a new tool. The worst case scenario, you might change your option for the bumper.

A solid set of sliders and some skid plates are a top priority. Probably get them after the tires and before the bumper.
