Exhaust Pipe and Spare Tire Clearance

New Gibson exhaust doesn't seem to have a heat shield and the pipe is like half inch from spare.

- leave it?
- install own heat shield?
- any idea how to attach a heat shield to the aftermarket pipe?

 

Instructions say 1 inch

 

Here's my temp fix, but disappointed at the design....

 

I’ve seen a product used for wrapping tube headers, that may also fit the bill if the tape product is inadequate. Try Jegs or Summit to source that.

The tape is holding.on, but still hot to touch.

 

That’s the stuff. Usually used to wrap the headers under the hood to keep the heat in the exhaust, and not under the hood.

 

heat and bend the pipe to get the clearance you need.

go to a stock size spare .

I just can`t get into crawling under the truck all the time to check the air pressure

very interesting idea. how do I heat it? just drive far, then whack it with a soft hammer?

 

Torch most likely Oxy -fuel of some sort.

Look at the hangers maybe it can be moved enough just be changing where the hangers are attached .

I use clamps and universal hangers to support mine

I bent my hangers to the right so my exhaust would not be as close to my 285/75/16 spare tire . you could also install a small bracket that moves your spare to the left .

 

How'd you bend the hangers

 

Could use a bed mount.

 

with a large pry bar the hangers move easy and it will get you a little extra room . If I go into work tomorrow all get some new pic's and post them .
