I am a new tacoma owner. Need help.

Im going to install:
Bilstein 5100 adjustable lift kit.
New CV axles
New differential oil seals.
Replace driver side CV bushing with new ECGS Clamshell CV bushing

Any warnings or advise on installation or where to order parts from ??

 

whats the main difference between the fox ones and the Bilstein 5100?

 

I have 20 inch wheels and need at least a 2.5" lift

 

Like I just said Bilstein is a Degresive shock Fox and king are Progressive .Used to be a saying on Jeep forum that said that with Bilsteins you can not only feel a dime if you drive over it you can tell if it was heads or tails and I would still buy Bilsteins thinking ah BS ( stubburn). The fox is valved like the OE shock so rides is similar. Fox comes with new matched springs which also contributes to the ride .If your going to be adding weight you can choose stronger springs, longer springs. The shock is adjustable without removing the spring. Their is a thread here called everything fox. Its long but after reading it you will have no doubt in your mind between the two brands which to buy. I tried it and now Im a believer too. 20" wheels will not help you get a good ride and unless you are going with about 37" tires they will hinder you off road. You want side walLflex and with a 20 you don't have much sidewall and taller sidewall contributes to a softer ride . I made that mistake on my last Ram using OE 20S . It rode like it had rocks for tires plus in 20s its hard to find a tire of any size that isn't E rated which just adds to unsprung weight on a tacoma. Off-road think taller sidewalls, road racing ,tall wheels and less sidewalls .

Fox and Bilstein both make many many different models. From budget to race ready.

Main difference is Fox is progressive and Bilstein is digressive. Google can teach you all about that.

If you keep the tire size to 32" or 33" overall you can run whatever wheel size you want.

2.5" and above is where you start running into a rough ride and other issues. Just an FYI.

 

Just did my lift and ECGS bearing yesterday. Freeze the bearing in your freezer overnight, went in easy as hell.

 

I understand both companys make different models but I thought we were talking 5100s and I was going with the cheapest fox 2.0. Something thats not a big jump in price . The search tool helps as you can read the answers to the same questions many times over then you can form your own opinion based on what you learn
