I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but every time I fill up my tank, the gas station nozzle (all different gas stations) releases after a few seconds while it's on lock. Is there something wrong with my gas tank or the hose that's transporting gas to the tank? Has anyone ever experienced this or is it just me?

Also, I only experience this with my truck. My friend has a Tacoma (same year, same model) and he has never experienced this before. Neither has anyone I know.

I noticed this happening about 2 and a half years ago and didn't know whether it was a big deal. Any help?

Yeah I have noticed this too, but not all the time.
I'm not sure how those releases work, but I wonder if it has to do with how you position the nozzle?

Mine does the same thing. It gets frustrating, but I just figured it isn't that hard to press the lever again.

I think it depends on the pump. It happens to me all the time at a certain gas station, but others work just fine. It sure as hell is annoying tho.

I think it might be the postion. I have tried pulling up on the rubber cover that goes over the hole and it seems to work better.

I have it happen too. I even have had it "pop" every second or so. Got so annoying. I left and went to another station and had no problem there.

Yeah...I have noticed if I re-position it, it won't do it again in-till it fills up all the way.

And on a side note just in case anyone doesn't know, after the tank fills up and the pump clicks off, don't top it off! You can wreck your expensive charcoal canister and throw a code.

hey at least your gas pumps are still able to lock. in MA it is illegal to lock the pump for continous use. in october, they are taking away the bottom handle so theres no way to prop it :(

Mine seems to work most reliably if I stick the nozzle in all the way, then pull it back out just a little, maybe 1/4" or so. Alsol I only put the handle lever on the first notch, so it fills up at the slowest rate.

But different nozzles are different, not long ago I was filling up and the nozzle did not shut off, it just spewed gas all over after it got full, lucky i was standing right there, I still left a gallon on the ground and down the side of my vehicle.

Mine used to do this on occasion, and I found it only would do it if I put the fill nozzle all the way in. When I insert the nozzle, I always slide it back out an inch or two and haven't had a problem since. It has to do with the new anti syphon fuel tank filler necks they are using in the newer vehicles.

It depends on the station, the ones fitted with the newer nozzles won't do it. The Tacoma gas tank filler has a "goose neck" design therefore if you pump the gas too fast it can back up on you. As others have stated if you experience this just pull out the nozzle a bit and pump at the slowest rate, it's kinda annoying but at least those crooks can't steal gas out your tank.

I have that happen when I'm in areas with stricter regulations about gas fumes. In places with the plastic/rubber nozzle covers that reclaim some of the fumes I have to push the handle of the nozzle slightly down (pivoting and raising the tip in the filler tube slightly) to avoid this.

In areas that don't mandate the vapor reclamation gear I don't have this problem.. at least not consistently.

I know exactly what your talking about! some nozzles dont like the angle they set at when left hanging. but if you hold it and lock it at the right angle it will be fine. sometimes i have to adjust the stupid thing 2 or 3 times before i get it to set right. its ridiculous. its mostly with a certain type of vapor lock nozzle ive noticed.

When people top off their cars, they overfill and liquid gas gets into the vapor release and jams up the pump nozzle, makes it act stupid. Don't top off.

In my neck of the woods we haven't had lockable nozzles for years...like 10 years or more. You have to stand there and hold the trigger the entire fill up. Makes me want to light up a smoke to pass the time..:D
